2022 Turbo Vado SL 5.0 Garmin 530 power cadence

I think I saw some threads on here where someone is saying they can get cadence and power using the ebike ant+ sensor pairing with specialized ebikes. I have a turbo vado SL 5.0.

I only get cadence and power if I add those as separate sensors in my Garmin. I've tried removing and re-adding multiple times. Is that correct? Or is there another way?

I added the e-bike sensor and do NOT get power or cadence. The fields remain blank. I tried adding them and they won't add with e-bike sensor already selected. I hope someone can explain how to do it. Also, there's a ton of power choices which only confuses me

Also when you go for a ride, do you start the mission control app and your Garmin? Trying to figure out when I would track my ride via mission control?

First of all, Bluetooth and LEV ANT+ are two different things. Mission Control talks with Vado SL via Bluetooth, and Garmin uses the e-bike (LEV) capable ANT+ protocol.

I only connect the E-Bike Sensor on my Wahoo ELEMNT and can see Power ("W 3s") and Cadence ("RPM") values without connecting other sensors there. It works as good for Vado SL as for Vado or Giant Trance E+.

My brother uses Garmin Edge 530. He has used the same configuration for his Trance E+ as for both my Specialized e-bikes, and he never connects the Power or Cadence sensors. However, I am not using a Garmin myself so could only give the definitive answer later.

I saw this post, where you had a picture of your brother's Garmin.

In this photo, he added 3 sensors=ebike, speed/cadence, and power. It isn't necessarily a different device, but you have to add the same sensor 3 times. Is that what you are thinking or is there a different way?

As I can judge from the performance of my Wahoo, and from what my brother tells me, the separate Cadence and Power sensors are for older bike GPS computers with ANT+ but not LEV (Light Electric Vehicle) ANT+. These additional sensors have -- for instance -- own crankarm length and wheel circumference parameters (each), making a lot of confusion.

If weather and other factors permit it, I would ride my Vado SL to see my brother today (if he takes his Garmin 530 to work). Then I can test it.

Like this? I called my Vado, Vader, since it was born on 5/4

@mogulman: I have just got the reply from my brother:
Yes, you need to use all three sensors for Garmin Edge 530 to get the Power & Cadence for Vado SL.
(@kahn was right!)
Ironically, a Wahoo ELEMNT (Roam or Bolt v2) only takes the E-Bike Sensor to accomplish everything.

Need more detail. I thought I had tried adding the other two manually but did not get any results. As I said, there are probably a dozen POWER options. Or maybe I need yet another screen since maybe I'm not getting the cadence/power on the what I set as as the e-bike screen. I have power and cadence and they both remain blank. If I recall, cadence needs the cranks spun which I can't do inside my house easily. Bike stand is in the basement and the bike is NOT!

Kahn,

For my Garmin 530, I went to the Sensors screen and added the Ebike. Then a few minutes later, I went to the same screen and added power and Speed/cadence. If you can't find the sensor under a specific category, there is something that will let you search for all categories. TCU must be turned on for a few minutes for everything to be found. Also, usually everything has a 5 digit number rather than a name. All 3 items will have the same number. I just renamed mine.

On my Screen1 settings for my Vado Profile, I added Cadence and Power 3s. I don't think instantaneous power (without 3s) is available.

I will explore in a bit. Although, after all these years, I'm not sure that I need cadence (to tell me I'm not spinning fast enough!)

When I go to the Sensors screen in my Edge 1030+ settings, I see three different sensor entries with the same sensor ID. One is for the E-bike functions, one is for Power, and the other is for Cadence & Speed, and these show as expected on the screens where I use them. Previously, I also had the problem of no power or cadence, and I'm pretty sure that when I removed and then re-added the E-bike sensor, I got a prompt box with checkboxes for enabling the Power and Cadence/Speed functions.

II have tested it out myself today as well.

Cadence (Jacek does need to see Power).

It is as mogulman and rochrunner say. (Wahoo is different, as it only needs the E-Bike Sensor to provide the full functionality).
Please appreciate I have ridden for 42 km to test it out. And to buy salt, sweetener, bread and nespresso in Warsaw :D

Ah, the sacrifices we make to help friends out. What, no pastry???? ;)

Back to the bike room!

And, boy, is it miserable here today. 46F (7.7C) and heavy rain. It is cold and raw - I was just at a plant nursery looking for veggie starts and seeds. The only electric I want right now is HEAT!
