Was comparing the range on these two bikes with with the range estimator on the Trek site. If you set everything the same such as speed, tires, same battery pack etc. the Verve has a better range in miles. I understand why because the Verve has a 50nm motor vrs the 75nm on the Allant. My question is with the added torque of the Allant if you drop it down a notch, for example from sport to tour mode. Shouldn't you get roughly the same amount of assist and range as the Verve in the sport mode?

Yes. And the range calculator shows this.

For example, you can enter the following inputs to the calculator:
  • Type of bicycle & posture
    • City bike
  • Shifting system
    • Derailleur system
  • Tire tread
    • Hybrid bike tires
  • Battery
    • PowerTube 500
  • Average speed
    • 12 mph
  • Starting up
    • Mixed tour
  • Total weight
    • 170 lb
  • Cadence
    • 70 rpm
  • Terrain
    • Hilly
  • Surface
    • Road with poor quality
  • Season
    • Summer
  • Wind conditions
    • Light breezes
You should get the following results:

For Active Line Plus (Verve) in Sport: 47 miles

For Performance Line CX (Allant) in Sport: 42 miles

For Performance Line CX (Allant) in Tour: 50 miles

Remember that ‘update’ to the CX motor Takes it from 75nm to 85nm. You can also change the Sport mode to EMTB mode, which really helps IMHO.
I just rode a Verve 3 yesterday (as I’m looking for my wife) and there is seriously no comparison to the handling and power of the +7! That said, I spend the vast majority of my time in Touring mode. Big hills call for EMTB or sometimes Turbo.
