Hello all,

I'm interested in getting an ebike and have found one for sale. What would be a fair price for a 2018 explorer with 2400 miles? They are asking $1850. it also has some nice accessories that probably don't don't add up to much, but certainly sweeten the deal.

stay safe,
Steve

To me that sounds like a high price. And WHICH Explorer model is it? The best one that was sold in North America (as far as I know, but I'm not sure about 2018) was the E+1 GTS. There are actually E+0, E+1, E+2, E+3 and E+4 models now.

I would take that $1850, save up a bit more and get something newer. E-bike technology changes very rapidly and it gets better and better. Plus, I'd be concerned about the battery condition of that 2018 model... replacing a battery is very costly.

Good luck!

Admittedly this is a terrible time to grab a bargain in the biking world but agreed, feels too much for a bike just out of warranty (or very near it). Aren't they like $2.5k new in the US? And surely sales come along from time to time to knock that down further. Too expensive, too risky given you don't know if it has been chipped or how it has been ridden. They're great bikes though.

Hey, thanks. I'll have to find out which model it is, it wasn't on the ad ,so I'll have to ask or look on the bike. And You mentioned the battery, that was a question for me also.

Some folks seem to put a lot of miles on a bike over 2 or 3 years and others have much lower milage in the same timeframe and need battery replacements. Is there a way to test the battery, with a micrometer or something?

My other thought is that the current inventory of ebikes is low, my LBSs are almost wiped out of everything. I was really surprised when I went in the other day, they said it's been like that for months! So I was also looking at this as a enrty point to midmotor ebike available now.

Thanks!
Steve

thanks for sending that bikesdirect link.... definately something to think about........ I haven't really looked at the shimano E5000 motor, so I have some work to do.

update on the used explorer, the guy doesn't know which model it is, so I'll have to try and decifer when looking at the bike..... the price has been reduced by $200 and I overlooked it's biggest upgrade, suspension seat post (one of the models with the rubber insert).

thanks for all the feedback, I appreciate it!

Suspension post is a $30 to $150 item. Not that big a deal. It is a great addition, I'm looking for one myself.
