10 vs 11 speed on Medeo T10+.

Very surprised that Gazelle used 2015 gear tech on a 2020 bike. 10 speed is now old school and increasingly difficult to source parts. I can upgrade the entire drive-train, minus chain ring to 11 speed Shimano XT for under $300.

Both my Haibikes use 10 speeds and I have no complaints. $300 for one more gear? I don't understand the need.

Replacing for parts availability as 10 speed stuff is getting increasingly hard to find, plus it will be all XT. 11 speed XT,Same as I have on my other Haibike and it shifts noticeably better than the outdated 10 speed on my Gazelle. Maybe that will help you understand.

Still doesn’t make sense to me on a new bike. I have over 4,800 miles on a 10 speed cassette. Changing out a 2020 gear set because parts are hard to get and it's old school still makes no sense.

I like to do these things whether it makes sense to you or someone else is irrelevant. I think you want to argue for the sake of argument. Got something positive to contribute? Go for it. Otherwise, this conversation is over.

How much more positive than saying a 10 speed cassette will last 5,000 miles if you take care of it do you want? Parts availability doesn’t make much difference today if the 10 speed cassette lasts 3-4 years. Adding 1 gear does not make a cassette high tech and modern. Better? But if you really want the 11 speed and it would make you happier, why ask? It’s not like it’s a huge investment. I’d suspect the 11 speed isn’t readily available right now either. Parts are in short supply everywhere.

All 11 speed drive parts arrived within 2 day shipping. Not hard to get at all. Available anywhere. The 10 speed stuff is whats hard to get. Believe me. I tried.
As I originally wanted an "Ultimate T10+. None were available from my dealer, so I decided to see what I could do to make to make my Medeo T10+ a, Medeo T10+Ultimate. My Medeo, $3499 The Ultimate= $3999. What to do with the extra $500 I had already set aside for the Ultimate? Make my own. In my opinion it's what Gazelle should have included with the Ultimate.
1. More modern and robust drive-train.
2. Intuvia display instead of the Purian.
Upgrading the drive to 11 speed, all Shimano XT. (Cassette, Derailleur, shifters, cable & cable, including labor $307.75
Display: Intuvia retrofit kit= $134.95,(ships free)
Mount for Intuvia Display= $45
Sub=$487.50
$100 credit for original parts
So, For $387.50 I've turned my Medeo T10+ into a, Medeo T10+ Ultimate.
Only thing I'm missing is Red paint and a better light. Oh wait, I've still got $112.50 for a light upgrade! I'll live with the "petrol" paint I've got:) I'm retired, have the money and time and I love doing this kind of thing. Will post pics soon.

10 speed Shimano Deore cassettes are available on Amazon with 2-day prime shipping for $50. I used the exact same model on one of my bikes and it lasted 3300 miles.
