10 speed drivetrain upgrade with derailleur clutch for CC, CCS

We have put together a nice 10 speed drivetrain upgrade with Shimano Deore components at a good price. (In Canadian dollars, so 25% less is USD!)

This kit is a significant upgrade to the stock Juiced CrossCurrent S drivetrain. Weather you have worn out your original 9 speed Altus set up, or you are getting frustrated with chain drops, this precision groupset with derailleur clutch will get you going in style and will provide years of reliable service.
We have found that installing this upgrade can lead to better, more responsive torque sensing performance. The CrossCurrent S relies on chain tension to sense torque, and this kit keeps the chain under control with the Shimano Shadow RD+ rear derailleur stabilizer.
Wider gear range with 11-36 instead of 11-32 gives you a lower 1st speed.
SRAM Powerlock chain is easy to remove for cleaning etc with the quick release link
The kit includes:
Shimano Deore RD-M6000 Rear derailleur 10sp GS Black.
Shimano Deore SL-M6000-R Shift lever 10sp Black.
Shimano CS-HG50-10 10sp. cassette 11-36T
SRAM PC-1031 10sp chain 120 links, Powerlock extended with an extra powerlink to the correct length
SRAM Powerlock extra powerlock link to extend the chain.

For installation you will need a chain whip, a shimano cassette removal tool, a metric hex key set, the special juiced 18mm axle nut removal tool, (or a good box end 18mm wrench) and cutters to trim the shift cable. i just bought a replacement chain and cassette. The original parts barely went 1500 miles before wearing out. I guess i'll be ordering your kit in about 1500 miles.

Thanks for posting. Seems like this setup could work on RipCurrent S as well. Curious why not just go for 11 speed and get the extra low gearing?

Hey Jeff,

Yes I think it should work on the CCX as well, I assume they are identical down there. I did try out a 10 speed with a 42 tooth, but it was pushing things a bit because of the angle of the chainline on the big ring. I think the 10 speed is a good compromise on price VS performance.
 
The 10 speed kit arrived today. Here are the components:

The shifter has me puzzled. I will have to read the instructions.

Will my old cable housing work?
 
Oh good, glad it arrived. Yes, you can just pull the old cable out with the oils shifter, and thread the new cable in it’s place.
 
Does the Deore M6000 derailleur have a clutch? That would help with all the chain drops. Even if it doesn't this means one can get a 10 speed derailleur with a clutch.
 
I installed the new shifter. If I have it right, it fits well with the tektro brake.

The SRAM chain is very tacky out of the box. I thought the chain manufacturers shipped chains prelubed but it is a dirt magnet. Any suggestions?
 
I finished the upgrade. After a bike mechanic tuned the derailleur, the shifting was fine. Even without engaging the clutch the RD has a very strong pull. I liked the extra 36 toothed cog and used it more than I expected. I removed my chain catcher and had no chain drops on today's 20 mile ride.
