I have only ridden a bbs01 mid drive and i felt it very difficult to pedal without power, best bet would be a bigger battery or a geared hub for easy pedalling and efficiency,like berry said try another bike see how it feels. level 1 is terrible on my system iirc 7mph!

The dropouts on those suspension forks are very porous metal and break easy, do you have a closeup of the washer nut on the axle?

Cnugget,it helps to know where your plugs are, a throttle on ebay is 3 bucks free shipping .. and if you put up pictures of the existing wires i can tell you how to solder in a new throttle...most ebikes i fix, problems are something easy...for instance someone taking the bike through a doorway...
