    Smart helmet?

Just updating thread that Beyond, maker of Classon helmet, went bust and the app is locked out and helmet bricked. A bit of a bummer, but that's the risk of pioneering. Unit 1 Aura production is underway and awaiting Kickstarter delivery in a few weeks. Looking forward to upgrading to a MIPS...

Canada to restrict class 3 ebikes to 20mph

@jimix Every e-bike and rider combo is slightly different, different chassis, and rider weights, different wheel and tyre combos, skill/style, appetite for danger, different ECU controller max power and assist settings, ECU comfort delays, etc. When every millisecond counts ie. crossing an open...

Canada to restrict class 3 ebikes to 20mph

Sure, all fair points. Note that I didn’t author the quoted article, and not an interested contestant. We also agree that the absence of brakes would make it harder to stop and/or make it home alive. Grasping window trim of moving highway cars similarly unadvisable for most of us. All of this...

Canada to restrict class 3 ebikes to 20mph

"...Monster Track mimics the perils bike messengers encounter on the job, like traffic, potholes and pedestrians, to name a few. Instead of a fixed route, racers are given a series of checkpoints. Knowledge of the city’s streets and the quickest routes is essential. And if that wasn’t enough...

    Smart helmet?

No cameras, but the Unit 1 Aura looks amazing. Just pre-ordered on their Kickstarter.

    Smart helmet?

Good questions. For those interested, my Classon helmet is still serving me well. There is no monthly subscription fee. The forward-facing camera can record hours of commuter close-calls and near misses, as well as unique ride experiences. I’ve been able to send ride footage to my government rep...

Horn, Bell or Voice, how to warn others of your presence and intentions

There's a whole EBR sub-header on community regulation/legislation changes which can pass for or against a cycling community. Nevertheless, hitting and injuring someone to teach a malicious lesson, can result in personal legal problems, on top of cycling community backlash, maybe even some...

Horn, Bell or Voice, how to warn others of your presence and intentions

You lost me at the last entry. Anyone recklessly overtaking unprotected, slower moving, and/or distracted traffic, will be responsible for the consequences. 3 feet should be given as a minimum general rule (often the law depending on where you live). That goes in reverse too, since cycling...

Horn, Bell or Voice, how to warn others of your presence and intentions

With ebikes, there is much more clutter on the handlebar area, and our hands can only be so many places at the same time. Upon any uncertain situation, we instinctively hover fingers over both brake levers, as with any bike. We take a calculated gamble to remove one of those to hit a bell, or...

What is the demand for affordable, safe, and tested used EV batteries?

Musk's former partner, JB Straubel, came out of stealth mode with his Redwood Materials, and Li-Ion recovery/recycling is their game, with big bet Palo Alto VC backers, and already some major brand commitments. There are tons of discarded Li-ion in public landfills too, hopefully some of that...

Will Boomerang V2 Cyclo Trac ever come back? It looked promising.

Boomerang support has been positive. Several software updates and battery swap about a year ago. We haven't had any bikes stolen, so can't comment on that. The flashing "armed" LED is a better visible deterrent than just a lock on its own.

Horn, Bell or Voice, how to warn others of your presence and intentions

On our ebikes we use a traditional ding-ding bike bell for lower speed paths and trails, and a rechargeable moped-like loud horn for t-bone merging cars and other traffic, made by Juiced. The latter also has an accelerometer and a loud AF alarm for coffee stops which is a nice extra feature.

    10 Step-Thru Ebikes For Consideration

Soft tires for shock absorption and floatation. Step thru is nice for shorter riders, and urban settings. That Frey looks like the crankset is biomechanically awkward - that rotating axis is too far back. Even the Lectric is somewhat awkward that way. Best to ride before you buy, if you can.

    Qualisports Dolphion Locking Seatpost Clamp

As a first gen rider, I was a bit confused by this post until I went to the site and saw the new design solution. Not a bad solution, while it works I guess! How much of that key is broken off in there to extract? Do you have a picture? If you can't tweeze, needle nose, or magnetically extract...

New front light and adding a wired rear light.

Thanks @Tinker looking forward to seeing your finished ride. Some other EBR brand threads are using Handlebar Extenders to de-clutter, or maybe super-clutter, not sure which. In any case they are cheap, and offer space to go full Pee-Wee Herman. The 3" rise bars will improve the riding...

    Controller Modification for more speed?

@tds101 Not sure if you've done it already (from post above Feb 1), but flip the bike over and behind crank, there are 4 hex bolts affixing the controller plate to a frame pocket where the controller CPU box and wiring harnesses live. Disconnect seat post battery. Cut the zip ties on frame and...

    Accessories for your XP

I just got a customer note that the white-walled Vee Speedster tires are back in stock at Enki's online shop (where I bought mine a while ago), after a long international backorder wait. I have no affiliation with that particular storefront, but I recall they were tricky to source, so maybe...

    Fiido D11 Electric Bike Review

It definitely looks tidy...but eventually, the rider dismounts, and goes into a building/situation where bikes aren't allowed. How do they lock this, and why is bike security always a design afterthought on a bike >$1000? It looks like a lock would need to thread through the crank gaps? Now...
