2020 Allant 9.9S Grinding Noise from motor or is it?

Hi First Light, You are totally right this is a great place to ride. Yes to all of the above - done Ft Desoto, Fishing Pier on Skyway, St. Pete Beach, Pass-a-Grill many others - lucky to be able to do the rides from home. Have a neighborhood ride on the trail from home to Gulfport for...

2020 Allant 9.9S Grinding Noise from motor or is it?

Umm. Bob, why do you care? You ditched your 9.9S and went to a Specialized. Trek stood behind their products and replaced any defective hubs that I heard about here. I worked through it with the Trek Team and they fixed everything - even as I moved from NJ to FL and different LBS - and...

2020 Allant 9.9S Grinding Noise from motor or is it?

My 9.9S was purchased in Dec 2019. I went through three Shimano hubs, each failing between 200 and 400 miles. Onyx hub installed and no other issues with the bike. Bike has been amazing since. Smooth, quiet, love it. Getting close to total of 3000 miles on the bike.

    Hitch Rack for Supercommuter+ 8S

That is interesting that they don’t recommend. It has been three years with the T2 XT and it has worked well. I have always made sure the hook was right against the front fender and then made sure it was well locked in place. We also have a thick 9 foot cable with lock. That cable is just...

Best Trek Dealer in Southern California?

I have an Allant 9.9S. When I purchased the bike I lived in NJ, and we now live in FL. The NJ dealer wound do free upgrades on the firmware, and other service items at N/C because you bought the bike from him. Now, I have to pay for the Bosch firmware upgrades as I did not buy the bike from...

Any Trekkers have their battery lock cease to function?

Hi FawnRidge - you actually can get a lock from ABUS that uses the same key as the battery. My bike came with a card that has a code where you can order bike locks that match your battery key. Abus.com/yourplus The site is actually in German, but does explain that fact.

Great! There are a lot go really cool things going on in the area of bikes. Funny how some bicyclists telll you that you are "cheating" with an electric bike. When you hear that say "you are right, I am cheating the grim reaper by going out riding". There are so many good bikes that are...

    Class 3 bike

My wife and I have two class 3 bikes. Trek Allant+ 9.9 and a Trek SuperCommuter +8. We have ridden the bikes in many national parks, state parks, local paths, and even on a Vermont Bike Tour in Arizona - Saguaro National Park. We have never run into anyone that has asked us what the class...

    Need advice for Ebike order

I have a Specialized mountain bike, but when it came to the electric, I went with Trek. Primarily due to the Bosch motor. I first had a Supercommuter 8+, but now am riding am riding the Allant+ 9.9S. The motor has had the firmware upgraded so it produced 85Nm of torque, and it is fun. I...

    Scratching sound from my Allant

Update on the new Shimano hub rebuild. The parts arrived from Shimano/Trek to my LBS as well as instructions on how to rebuild. I now have about 350 miles on the new hub (1,108 total miles). It runs totally silent, in stark contrast to the other hubs that failed. Each of the other hubs...

2020 Allant 9.9S Grinding Noise from motor or is it?

Totally agree with Alaskan. I think the firmware upgrade gave it noticeably more grunt. Really goes along well. I also got rid of one of our cars, as we moved to St. Petersburg and have been using the bike to run around town rather than a car.

2020 Allant 9.9S Grinding Noise from motor or is it?

I agree with Alaskan. More likely the hub. Go there first. Then to the motor. It is really difficult to diagnose because it is difficult to ascertain where the sound is coming from. I also agree that you have a premium bike, Trek with stand behind it, just have some patience and...

How are you cleaning your Allant RIB battery compartment?

I had a Trek Supercommuter 8+ for three years (my wife still has hers), and my Allant 9.9 for 9 months. In rain, snow, dirt, cross country driving with them on the back of the car, and riding in pouring rain for hours, we have never had a problem or cleaned our terminals. We always drive with...

2020 Allant 9.9S Grinding Noise from motor or is it?

Oh, and one other thing. This new hub is totally silent when not pedaling. My first hub sounded like a swarm of angry bees when freewheeling, right from the start. Then the creaking/grinding started at 110 miles. The second hub started silent, and then buzzed intermittently, until it...

2020 Allant 9.9S Grinding Noise from motor or is it?

Always when applying force. The sound would get worse the harder you pedaled. That is why it get's initially diagnosed as a motor issue. Hard to tell where the sound is coming from, and you first think it must be a bearing in the motor. It starts intermittently, and then eventually gets to...

2020 Allant 9.9S Grinding Noise from motor or is it?

I bought my 9.9 last year in early December. Alaskan, and several other of us have be commiserating on the failing hubs. Instead of installing an Onyx (which is a good option), I decided to try and work with Trek/Shimano on a solution. My first hub started making noise at 118 miles, and...
