Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

Interesting observation very much in line with what I've been reading lately about the real cost/benefit of weight reduction in cycling. (Several recent GCN videos on this very topic.) Sounds like you might feel the acceleration and overall responsiveness benefit with, say, a 1 kg reduction...

    New California Senate Bill 1167

Hoping these dangerous young riders face penalties they'll never forget. Also hoping that these police actions get a lot more common — and get widely publicized in a positive way everytime. Wish this video had made crystal clear that there were few if any ebikes in all this footage — proving...

That photo brings back fond memories of our Denver days. March and early April were the snowiest time of year there. In contrast, our March-April here in coastal SoCal has so far been warmer than most summers.

Turbo Vado SL 4.0 Tick-Tock Noise

Amen to that! Last time I thought for sure it was my motor. It was my freehub. Interesting how hard it is to localize bicycle noises. Reflections, transmission through frame members could all contribute, I suppose.

Speaking of scouting possible routes, I really like to know the bike infrastructure situation in advance. For anyone interested, the most reliable way I've found to scout infrastructure is to look for myself using satellite view in Google Maps, RideWithGPS, etc. Plenty of resolution to zoom in...

Many of the other roads in the Rancho Santa Fe area are like that bad stretch of Rancho Santa Fe Road, just nowhere near as busy. I think several of the group regulars and old-timers live in that area, and that's just what they're used to. But the roads closer to my house are way safer, and...

Me, too. We're blessed with soooo much good bike infrastructure here. No sane reason to ride that stretch of Rancho Santa Fe.

Thanks again for reminding me about MicroTune. Used it on today's Wednesday morning group road ride for the fine assist control. My top priority on these rides is to keep up with the least possible assist, and MicroTune really helped me dial that in. Really wasn't feeling up to the ride this...

Watching the peloton - Professional Road Racing thread 2026

    Woohoo, saw something on a Paris-Roubaix bike that I have on mine — Schwalbe Clik valves! Closest I'll ever get. ;^}

The more I think about it, the more this business model makes sense — especially if they're geared up for bigger jobs like parks. Endless and growing supply of dog poop, fewer and fewer people feeling obligated to pick up their own, dogs continuing to show no interest in picking it up themselves.

Still basking in the Paris-Rubaix afterglow. Two more excellent recaps: Roll and Liggett both saying it was one of the best races they've ever seen. And that's saying something!

Spent my whole life in science and science-based work and have great respect for what scientists do. They should do more public outreach regarding their methods and results, but no amount of outreach can prevent silly or self-serving interpretations of what they've found. Richard Feynman, the...

Watching the peloton - Professional Road Racing thread 2026

Apropos several discussions here, this GCN video starts with many interesting facts and perspectives on Paris Roubaix 2026 — including overall speed, number of mechanicals, tire and rim choices, the incredible efforts by Pog and MVDP to get back in the race, etc.

Pog said he had 3 "punctures". Wheels looked intact on the 2 I saw. Did the weaker wheels contribute to any of his mechanicals? Anyone else's?

Ha, no stranger to hail from our 20 years in Colorado. But I was riding very little then, and it never struck me till just now how poorly hail and riding mix! We had thunderstorms almost daily in summer and early fall, and many of them brought hail — sometimes lots of hail. Above is maybe...

Visualizing and exploring the power-sensing PAS in Specialized mid-drives — an interactive graphical model

Thanks! Sorry, don't know where to find that doc now, but member @Allan47.7339 might. I think the simple linear 2024 model above still gives very rough mechanical motor power (Pm) estimates from rider power (Pr), motor specs (Px and B), and assist mode settings E and M. But I wouldn't rely on...

Yes, I also watched the full replay. Ditto for Jonathan Milan. Heard only 1 or 2 passing mentions of Milan and Girmay. Normally, the callers are all over these guys.
