    Switch hub? Weird sound

The chart is pretty simple. It shows the controller wire on left, motor wires on right. I figured you aligned all the wires by thickness and color to start, Note that they never have to change the thin phase wires, which would involve pulling the pins out of the 2x6 plastic connector, All you...

Marion Iowa Considers Speed Limits for E-Bikes

There are some hard core cyclists that will ride streets near me with 45 mph traffic. Sure, when I'm in my car I wish they weren't there, but they have a right to use the road. And if you're in Mason City, IA, how you gonna get to Clear lake on a bike if they won't let you on ride on US 16.

    Switch hub? Weird sound

There is something wrong there. It looks like you have the separate three thick and five of six thin wires to the motor. Two or more are out of order. Did you follow the color scheme, matching colors on each wire thickness? While this has always worked for me, people talk about some motor makers...

    Controller question

The motor has three phases and Hall sensors, so you could spin it with any controller. The wires for the cadence sensor also come out. The KT controller would give you wacky speed readings. When coasting, it would use wheel sensor and wheel size. Should be correct there. Under power, you can...

Marion Iowa Considers Speed Limits for E-Bikes

You have a bigger problem in Iowa than a 15 mph limit. A new bill introduced in Iowa would only allow cars, trucks and motorcycles to use public roads. https://who13.com/news/new-bike-restrictions-proposed-in-iowa-drawing-strong-reactions/

Marion Iowa Considers Speed Limits for E-Bikes

We have no speed limits on our local trails, but the forest preserve trails in Chicago and the inner suburbs have a 15 mph limit for ALL bikes. I ride those paths twice a year, and it's no hardship, Most people are around that speed. Without a speedo, how would they know anyway, A few are...

Did I kill my mid drive controller?

Around 30 years ago, I had a battery powered Craftsman solder gun. I found it useful to keep in my car. Ran off a rechargeable battery, Would be handy today for when I was shaking down ebike builds. Often had a wire in the harness break, The technology was in the heating tip, When it burned...

    Winter Sucks

Tomorrow is Ground Hog Day. No matter what happens, it's only 7 weeks til the Spring Equinox. It seems like we just parked our bikes six weeks ago, just before the beginning of WInter. Batteries were fully charged in case the roads stayed dry (they didn't). We did get out on 1/13 for an...

Did I kill my mid drive controller?

I have done this twice, wiring up XT60's backwards in a rush, When I connected the battery to the bike, the connector pins melted instantly with a big POW/ZAP. That probably saved the controllers, DId it with a BBS02B and also a hub motor. You must have connected the battery with it switched...

Display cut out and loss of drive

I would diagnose this as a battery issue. One of the internal cell groups is probably low on voltage. When the battery sees a load, the voltage drops under the mininum and the battery turns itself off. It resets when the display powers down. Because we're only talking about a small difference...

Rad Power Bikes may close soon

News reports had RAD's unpaid balance sheet around $40M, so I would say their creditors are getting back 1.7/40 or less than a nickel on the dollar on average.

Rad Power Bikes may close soon

Stuff I never liked about Rad included the early bikes with direct drive hubmotors, and all the fat tire models. I did like their commitment to battery safety, although early results don't seem too good,

Rad Power Bikes may close soon

I read that the winning bid for Rad ebikes was $13.2 million. The winner gets to wipe out the debt that RAD owes, but will still be liable for any future lawsuits, To think that investors put over $330 million into the company.

    Welcome to the 21st century!!!

My new WIn11 PC is a money pit. Not being familiar with what I needed to run the current version of photo and video edit software, I bought a gaming PC. Prices have really jumped. The used Dell machine I bought for my wife last April went from $248 to $359 on amazon. The new Dell I bought after...

From Class 2 to Class 1. How "hard" is it to switch?

WTF, indeed. This was posted in a senior group I frequent on Facebook, and the gummers were cheering about getting those blasted kids on ebikes off their lawn. They all missed the part where if a kid needs a drivers license to ride, then so does everyone else. along with liability insurance, and...

    diy light weight ebike

I downloaded both documents. These are safe. Endi7 should probably include some photos in the posts. The battery build was interesting. I have gone thru most of the same learning curve. My suggestion would be the Panasonic 50S over the 50E that he used. The 50S has over twice the maximum...

    Signs of fall/winter.

It's less than 7 weeks now to the Spring Equinox om March 21. We did get a thaw after New Years, and we've put in 4 rides. although it was under 40F. Normally would have stayed inside. Anyway, time will fly and bulbs will be sprouting by them. When I was much younger, about this time of year, I...
