Frey Beast Added To The Garage

I have my sag at circa 30% with the higher spec coil but am reluctant to use a ratchet strap to compress the suspension. Have to wait until a mate comes around.

Frey Beast Added To The Garage

I counted 124 links on the stock chain. Interestingly, found with the coil removed, the stock chain was slightly too short when measured on the largest sprocket. I used 130 links which is slightly too long by one link by my reckoning, but obviously you can only add or remove two chain links...

Complete Details of Zen Mid-drive Motor - 500W (900W peak) power, 120Nm torque

Great summary of Ananda motors and why you chose to use them. My wife and I have the Ananda motors (48V version) in our Australian distributed Earth e-bikes and can’t fault them.

    750w Bafang vs 500w Ananda

I have Bafang Ultra and Ananda powered e-bikes. The Ananda is a cracker of a motor. Little is known about these motors as e-bike manufacturers usually rebrand them as their own. I did buy mine from my local bike shop since if I had any problems I could count on my warranty through my LBS. They...

    Hello from Brisbane

They seem to have poor customer service reviews when I last looked at these. Hence I bought the Frey.

    Hello from Brisbane

No, the Beast is not limited but the other Frey e-bikes are according to the dealer I bought it off. Need to sign a disclaimer to get the limiter lifted. So I bought the Beast and didn’t have to sign anything.

    Hello from Brisbane

I was riding my Frey Beast around yesterday without assistance. Can’t say I noticed any drag from the Ultra motor. Went for a family ride and my wife’s sister was on an acoustic bike. Riding too slow for my liking so I switched off the assistance for some exercise.

    Well done. That’s some pedalling!!

    Bafang Ultra Recommended Chain

Thanks for the links. My Frey Beast runs a SRAM GX 12X drivetrain, so I might update to the X01 or XX1 chain next time. I’m just worried the hollow pins in these chains might not cope with the torque compared to the solid pin GX chain?

    Chain Ring spider offsets?

Why do you need to change the spider? Just change the chainring.

    Frey Ex Chainring

Just did the same to my Frey Beast. Makes better use of the grunt these motors have even in the lowest assistance level.

Thanks USB is on the bottom not the back of the display. Good pickup on the brake lever clamps. I space my front and rear brake levers differently to provide a natural brake bias so happy where the rear lever is. This bike runs the MT5E brakes which I find very good for my use and combined...

The displays are in a fixed position. The Bafang display is a colourful and bright display (even set at 50% brightness) so no problem with glare. It is also light sensing, so adjusts brightness for low light and simultaneously turns on the headlight (which can also be turned on manually via...

Few pics of the Frey Beast cockpit. I put a K-Edge gravity mount in place of the stem cap for my Garmin 830, rolled the Bafang display forward on the bars and tucked the stock light up underneath for a neat integrated setup.

Frey Beast Added To The Garage

Fitted the 48T WT chainring over the weekend. Bought two new chains as I needed more links than the stock length 12 speed chain would provide. Wanted to keep the original chain in case I reverted back to stock 40T chainring. I think I need to check the SRAM chain gap adjustment with their tool...

    AM1000V6 or CC

Yes the Beast is comfortable on pavement. I commute to work in the CBD on it and ride on paved bike paths on weekends. You can cover a lot of ground fairly effortlessly on this bike. I am 55 years of age and don’t get neck, back or ass soreness after riding it. This bike insights link shows the...

Watt Wagons Critical Product Availability Status

A 60 volt battery charges to 67.2 volts and doesn’t hit 60 volts until it is circa 62% of its charge. So the battery is putting out in excess of 60 volts for a good deal of its charge. Frey quotes 1800w peak on its website. https://frey.bike/products/voyager-ex-beast In any case, I mainly...

Watt Wagons Critical Product Availability Status

Bafang makes a 60volt max 1800 watt Ultra as used in the Frey Beast which I have. It is Canbus. .

    AM1000V6 or CC

My Beast came with 5 spacer shims (2 inches) under the handlebar stem, so I certainly don’t feel hunched over. On the contrary, I find myself bending my elbows to drop my body down lower at higher speeds. Of course I could rearrange the shims to drop the bars lower but find the factory setup...

    AM1000V6 or CC

I have the bigger brother “Beast“ and ride it on the pavement. Only downside is the tyre noise at lower speeds - can always change tyres. At higher speeds the wind noise drowns out all other noise. More gears means you are rifling through the gears, although I usually double or triple shift to...
