    Ampler Nova e-bike

The simple calculation is to derate the advertised watt-hours by 20%. Then use your personal Wh/mile rating to figure range, For me, that number ranges between 8-10 WH/mile. For the 337WH 48V7AH battery in that ampoler, the advertised 336WH drops to 270WH, and I'm pretty surre I can get around...

    Time to change my bike?

Lots of youtube battery hotshots could revive that Aventon. but more than a few might have a fire .Leave it be. You got five years out of it. If it were a better battery,it wouldn't have discharged itself so low that it stops charging, So what to do with an battery that won't charge? It's not...

Electric Bike Battery Repair & Repacking

I believe it's real. Per the Indigogo page, 577 backers kicked in $217K, and they were testing the first product a few months ago. They're not taking any further orders though, With a trade war here, who knows what will happen. The lattice should have keyed somehow so you can't put a cell in...

Bikes in the Age of Tariffs

How about the big picture, where after a tariff induced recession, the consumer hasn't enough money to proritize a bicycle, which is not a necessity but mainly recreational in the USA. After Covid went dormant, tens of thousands of bikes purchased in 2020 must sit unused in storage. Probably...

Hubmotor works only in learning mode, Throttle changes the turning direction and more!

Well, now you won't have a display anymore. You will need to figure out how the three speed switch works, or buy one of those switches to be able to have more than one speed. No, an S866 display won't work with a foreign controller. Designers have to agree on a command protocol, a command set...

Hubmotor works only in learning mode, Throttle changes the turning direction and more!

The dreaded Brainpower controller. I happen to own a 13A model with the S866. Got it running right away, but didn't care for the way the pedal assist worked, You did disconnect the two green wires after it learned and spun the wheel? I don't recall if you have to power off before you...

    Theft?

They lost a whole trailer of bikes. Not hijacked, but someone brought in a tractor and drove it away from where it was parked.

    Electric Bike vs. Regular Bike

We bought an ebike for my wife in 2015, after seeing our first one at the bike shop. I figured it would get her riding again. I converted one for myself. It did get her riding again. We've done about 15K miles riding together. We already have 30 rides this year, most in 40F degree weather...

The Future of eBikes: How Fast is Too Fast?

Finally saw the future of ebikes here in Illinois. Three youngsters, probably 14-15, legal age here is 16. Dressed in black. Nice helmets. Super73/Ariel style bikes. On sidewalk, safer than the street at this intersection. as the cars would have mowed them down. Gone in seconds. Fast, when...

Bafang BBS02 B Motor One way bearing problem ?

I also lean toward the pawl clutch as the suspect. It allows the motor to turn the big internal drive gear (attached to the chain) faster than the feet.

    Seth prefers Schrader valves

I found that Bell 27 x 1-1/8" tubes use a smaller rubber bottom ring around the Shrader valve, They fit easily inside my road rims, Yes, I buy name brand double wall alloy rims when I build wheels. put in Sapim spokes that cost me fifty bucks, and still drill the rims out for Shraders.

    Ebike I want to pedal

If you want a sit down scooter with vestigal pedals so you can take a short cut thru the bike lanes, there you go! I would have no problem if 10% of the local city traffic used these on nice days to get to work,

    LCD display

The controller works and runs the bike, but it has no connector for a display? Does it have a speed button where you can pick 1 -3 assist levels? How does itturn on? Is there a start control or key switch? I would just leave it alone. There's no assurance that you have a cost reduced controller...

    Seth prefers Schrader valves

I don't like them because the air pumps I owned didn't attach well. Always leaked especially with hand pumps. I guess there is a knack to it, but I put shraeder adapters on the stems of the two bikes I own that use Presta, On new wheels, if they are Presta, I open up the holes with a step...

Used Chopsticks, What Do You Do? Most Whimsical, Practical, or Creative Ideas.

Somewhat OT. When we were small, we found an abacus. Turned it upside down and use it like a skateboard. Grandpa was pretty mad. It's mine now, stored away somewhere. I recall eating at a swanky place in Beijing on a tour of China 20 years ago, The waitress kept coming by and discreetly placed...

Where can i get a 25amp controller for my snapcycle also would a 35amp instead of 25a standered be to much power

Probably impossible to buy the same one Snapcycle used. It will have some chinese printing on it, and even if you can read it, where you gonna find it. Controllers can be swapped, but you also have to buy a new display because they're not plug-n-play between different makers. At least a hundred...

    Melty Battery Connector

I forgot that many ebike kits use crimped on bullet connectors for the heavy motor wires and also the battery power, This caused to look at pics of my first ebike kit from 2015, Yep, that what it used. I take back my claim of never using them. In fact, for eight years I used a foot of lamp...

    Melty Battery Connector

If it never has to come apart in the future, and you don't have ability to solder it, two crimp connectors will work. I don't use them, but crimp advocates say they're long lived. I use Xt60 connectors. You see them on RC batteries. The XT90's are bigger of course, but I'm running less than 10A...
