    Evo e-bikes

I've never heard of this company until a few minutes ago, but noticed the ST-1 with Bionix 350 and the MD-1 with shimano steps heavily discounted. Can anyone comment on their quality, or those two motors ?

    What's your range ?

I met up with Windward today and we rode 13.2 miles on USFS gravel roads with lots of elevation change. We are both about the same age and weight with similar bikes, so we compared battery usage on our ride. He used 28% of his battery on his Giant Full-E+3 (FS yamaha) and I used 27% on my easy...

Only 20 miles max range on new E mountain bike

There is a way, but you need permission (or forgiveness) from two entities. It's a little dicey.

Only 20 miles max range on new E mountain bike

That's a good price for the 500 and definitely your best option. If you are doing that many off-pavement miles, you will be glad you have full suspension. How can you go from Linville to Banner Elk and stay off the pavement the whole way ? The only way I know is Camp LutherRock...

Only 20 miles max range on new E mountain bike

To put it in perspective, the last eight miles on the road Windward is riding up to BR is the steepest road in North Carolina...

Only 20 miles max range on new E mountain bike

Now that i know the route, I need to back track...a full suspension is not overkill. That's miles and miles of bumpy gravel forest service roads.

    What's the market for 5k+ e-mtbs ?

Good points..., but when 90% of the mtbers in Asheville/Brevard are vehemently opposed to e-mtbs, it does give you pause.

Only 20 miles max range on new E mountain bike

Like I said earlier, if you can gradually wean yourself off the sport mode as you get in better shape, it will make a huge difference with your range...but that's a heckuva lot of climbing from Linville.

Only 20 miles max range on new E mountain bike

Oh Jeez, I can't believe you are taking that route, there's alot of climbing after you cross the bridge at Graggs, and then going up the globe road...500 wh may not be enough. I'm not even sure that my bike with 600wh would make it. If the LBS is going to rake you over the coals, just get...

    Ideas and Requests for Guides

The reviews would be much more helpful if you did an actual range test for each bike in the setting for it's intended use. Also, expand top rated to include bikes in 1k increments.

Only 20 miles max range on new E mountain bike

They should know better. Anyone who pays extra money for a full suspension bike is getting it for the ups and downs, so those figures are completely bogus. If you using the bike as intended (singletrack) in the mountains, I doubt you would even get 15 miles on a full charge.

    What's your range ?

I know there are alot of variables, but keep the actual range info coming. It may help a prospective buyer to make a better decision rather than taking the manufacturers word as gospel.

Only 20 miles max range on new E mountain bike

Unless you really need the full suspension, the Dirt-E models have 500w for alot cheaper price, not to mention the ToughRoad models.

Only 20 miles max range on new E mountain bike

If you return it, you might want to consider an e road bike rather than a full suspension e-mtb...your bike is overkill for that road.

Only 20 miles max range on new E mountain bike

yea, right off the bat there is a big climb from Linville to Grandfather Mountain on 221. A longer but more gradual route would be going up Roseboro road, but still alot of climbing either way.

Shift gears or raise and lower levels

It may also help to lockout your suspension.

Shift gears or raise and lower levels

Try staying out of the sport setting...I know that road, the uphills will suck your battery down in a hurry in the sport setting. Air up to max psi and ride in a lower gear on the hills.

Only 20 miles max range on new E mountain bike

What level of assist are you riding in ? Huge difference in battery consumption from low to high. That 2000 feet altitude gain in 9 miles is the culprit.

    What's the market for 5k+ e-mtbs ?

That looks to be the minimum price for a 2018 full suspension with mid-drive and good components. I wonder how many folks are willing to spend that kind of money without having access to most federal trails ?

Giant - Please build a Road-E touring edition

So, would you say the yamaha motor is going to give you the best range among the mid-drives ? If you are touring, are you still going to get the same mileage with another 20 pounds on the bike ?
