Just found a cracked rim on my allant 8

It's not about the size, but the material. Try Marathon Efficiency in 27.5" 60mm. Or the Conti Urban Contact 27.5-62 if you can find them. They're the fastest families of touring tires

Just found a cracked rim on my allant 8

Pretty surprising given such a wide rim and a reputable rim manufacturer.

    UL Certified Ebikes

Lol that is so obviously not an e-bike, much more so than an e-scooter. Bizarre.

    UL Certified Ebikes

Thank you. While it is lamentable that the causes aren't being made public, it is reassuring that whatever happened will inform future UL surveillance efforts.

    UL Certified Ebikes

@Fire_Safety, the CPSC recalled this device a year after it burned and killed two girls. It was UL 2272 certified and tested. Do you know how it was accredited as such but still proved dangerous...

What color is best for deterrence in bike locks

Like asking "What color of underwear is best for an office job interview?"

    Zen Shakti

Don't know if I said this before but I'd strongly consider using Continental Urban Contact tires, 27.5*62s, if and when they become available. They are $25 or so each at German retail prices. Marathon Efficiency is also good but prob more expensive ($40 at German retail) and a bit heavier...

House Representatives Panetta & Blumenauer introduce "e-bike Act" federal tax credit

Does that mean class 3 e-bikes could then be registered as a motorized bicycle in DC?

Aventon now has a 2-Year Warranty

Probably to: 1. Match Bosch's 2 year warranty 2. Qualify for ebike subsidies that may require it 3. Comply with EU regulations for future sales there.

For District of Columbia residents, an ebike purchase incentive is coming

Strange, I don't see any mention of DTC brands on his site Also just noticed that Aventon stopped listing stores in DC though I still see stock at Conte's.

For District of Columbia residents, an ebike purchase incentive is coming

Charlie is wrong, probably. Aventon says it has UL 2849 certification. Aventon sells through retailers some of the most affordable ebikes around. https://www.aventon.com/blogs/aventon_bikes/safety-tips-when-shopping-for-your-first-electric-bike

    Rad law suit

Yes I confess I tend to be 'biased' against companies with poor records and mediocre bang for buck. I'm also biased against people who are unkind, against rude drivers, against fraudsters... I'm just not a very fair person 🙃 All of those points about rad are factual, is that a problem

    Rad law suit

No I have no real numbers. But there is: Bad press from this lawsuit and other rider incidents Safety recall(s?) Higher prices on new models (trike, RadRunner 3), especially compared to rivals like Lectric Aventon increasing it's retail footprint Rivals now selling cargo bikes Rad cutting...

    Rad law suit

It's pretty shocking and bizarre that Costco would never repeatedly stock an appliance of any other kind that was that poorly built, but for bikes (and hoverboards etc), they simply don't care. But it's been going on for decades.

    Rad law suit

And that disclosure would completely undermine Rad's whole marketing pitch of carefree bikes for casual riders. Aside from pumping tires monthly and charging a battery ~weekly, expecting any technical routine maintenance on a mass marketed bike is just a recipe for disaster. I can't really...

    Rad law suit

I just don't get why someone would take the word of a company in deep **** if it's hardware is faulty, vs a litany of customers expressing issues with their bikes to friends and family. (Ie completely putting aside the Steinsapir plaintiffs suing). Someone counseling skepticism to make room for...

    Rad law suit

That is very plausible. Juiced for instance started subbing in no name Logan Brakes, and I've seen anecdotal reports of them failing and Juiced replacing them under warranty without issue. I have Logans on my bike but thankfully I've had no issues with them.

    Rad law suit

No, it wasn't that trivial. It was an experienced bike owner, Peter Flax, and many other parents, having to align the brakes every few weeks. That's a total recipe for mass disaster, between the bikes being heavy, electric and entirely marketed to non-technical customers (unlike say Luna or...

    Who owns your Bosch motor?

The cost of supporting a few old batteries is a pittance compared to the profit margins they have from their proprietary batteries. Plus, when you have non-proprietary batteries using a common standard, there will be support for a LONG time from the market generally, because there's still a...
