Vado 5.0 Fender Mount Bolt Replacement

The bolt that secures the rear fender to the back of the bottom bracket has fallen out on my 2020 Vado 5.0. The biggest issue is just the noise of the fender banging back and forth between the chainstays on rough terrain, and I'm also concerned that the wire to the rear light might be damaged...

An easy and expensive mistake: Vado Battery Related

Quick follow-up post. I brought the battery into my local authorized Specialized retailer. Apparently they had just replaced another battery for another customer for the exact same issue. As expected, Specialized declined to cover the repair under warranty. The worst aspect is that it took...

An easy and expensive mistake: Vado Battery Related

The magnetic cover is very well designed and pops back into place with almost no effort, which makes me even madder with myself that I hadn't done it. That's the main purpose of this thread, to remind those of us with this generation Vado and Como to always protect the plug or face the...

Known Issues & Problems with Specialized Products + Help, Solutions & Fixes

Vado and Como (and possibly other models): The leads in the charging receptacle are live. If you accidentally put something conductive in there, say for example a key, you will short the battery and damage the electronics. The battery will still hold a charge, but it will be unable to recharge...

An easy and expensive mistake: Vado Battery Related

Yesterday I was trying to insert my key into the battery lock on the bike (green arrow), and in my haste to get on the road I accidentally briefly put the key into the uncovered battery charging receptacle (red X). The metal key made a short across the two terminals and there was a pretty good...

    eBike rental near Fremont, CA

Thanks Angela! Pedego has very responsive customer service so far, and a location in Menlo Park in addition to San Ramon & Livermore. Zoomo might be worth a trip up to the City for as well.

    eBike rental near Fremont, CA

After a 2 year pause I'm rebooting this program at my company to get people on two wheels. A lot of the options I might have had in 2020 have closed or are not renting bikes right now. Fremont supposedly has HOPR bikes, but I think they are not allowed into Newark. Any suggestions are welcome...

    eBike rental near Fremont, CA

Hey Bay Area people, I am working on a program at my company to encourage people to try eBikes instead of their single occupant vehicles. I have secured funding to get the company to pay for eBike rentals for employees who want to test their actual commute. Since we are located in Newark, I'm...

I demo'd a Specialized Vado and loved it, what other bikes should I try before spending $3K-$5K?

Hey everyone, thanks for your suggestions. I tried a lot of bikes and had a lot of fun. I thought everything with the Bosch Performance Line Speed motor (for example the Bulls Six50 E2) was plenty fast. The R&M bikes were really nice too, but ultimately a little above my price threshold for my...

Holy cow, that's a good looking machine. R&M dealers are not well distributed, I suppose I'm lucky that the closest one to me (New Wheel on Cortland) is only 30 miles away. Might be worth the trip up to San Francisco to try one out.

Thanks for the suggestion. Fenders and integrated lights are a definite plus for year round usage so that I can still ride in the dark and rainy months.

Taking one car off the roads of Silicon Valley

Parking was the first thing I looked into when setting up the program. We're in a pretty industrial area so I'd feel nervous trusting a lock out-doors all day. We'll see how many people I can get to mount up. People in tech tend to be into gadgets and there's no gadget niftier than a bike that...

I demo'd a Specialized Vado and loved it, what other bikes should I try before spending $3K-$5K?

Hey everyone, I have a 15 mile commute from Mountain View to Newark, CA. Mostly flat, the only real hill is the Dumbarton Bridge, and with pretty good bike lanes or trails most of the way, but a few short stretches of dirt or poor pavement along the way. Speed is essential, I'm trying to...

Taking one car off the roads of Silicon Valley

Greetings EBR forum, After some light lurking while researching a new Electric Bike purchase I'm taking the plunge into the forum. When my company moved from Menlo Park to Newark, my commute from Mountain View roughly doubled from 7 to about 15 miles (11 to 23 km). It's a pretty flat ride, but...
