Looking for a lightweight city/commuter bike

I have a 750w rear hub cadence sensor Class II/20mph Radrover and 1000-1600w Himiway Cobra Pro Class III/+28 mph mid-drive tq sensor. Both have throttles that come in handy. It is more involving with a mid drive with up/down gear shifting depending of speed and needing to applying more "pedal...

    6v vs. 12v Light

Any additional features with either light? I always feel safer during daylight "share the road" riding with headlights/taillights that can strobe.

    Reflective Jacket

One thing I've noticed are (e)bikes do not have very good side illumination or have side markers like you do with vehicles. This type of reflective top would be excellent for dusk-to-dawn share the road riding to improve 360 degree visibility. I've seen these types of bike riders at night and...

    Which brake first?

I use both front/rear equally in general riding on paved or dirt surfaces on dry surfaces (Radrover and Himiway fat tire ebikes). This is usually slowing down or stopping straight at an intersection/stop sign, before a gradual turn, or emergency stops. I use mostly my rear brake single track...

I am putting it up for the winter. Do I keep the battery (about 60% charged now) inside for the winter? Anything else?

I would read the owner's manual for long term storage and restrictions in below freezing temps. My Himiway 48v 20AH Samsung/LG Li-ion suggests not to store in near/below freezing temps, NEVER EVER deplete the battery, top off power on every ride, and store fully charged and top off to 100%...

Specialized Roll Comp Conversion vs. Himiway

My Radrovers are rated to 275lbs max (around +/- 300lbs for me after pandemic). I'm around 310lbs-335lbs between summer or winter temps when I was work commuting back in 2016-2019 pre-pandemic on my Rover with work backpack (work cloths, water, lunch, electronics), Topeak rack bag with...

    Frame Wrap - Frame Protection

My Himiway Cobra Pro has a carbon fiber looking wrap. I was worried about trying to repair nicks and scrapes single track riding or damage from chain slap hitting the frame. I used pre-cut Paint Protection Film (PPF) Enlee bike frame protection stickers, ($18, Amazon). You can place the...

How accurate are distances on e bikes

I could adjust the wheel circumference on my 2016 Radrover. Just purchased a 4.8" fat tire Himiway Cobra Pro and noticed the exact same issue of the controller being set to 26" and the fat tire is closer to 28"/29" in circumference. I can't change the wheel diameter in the Himiway controller...

E-bike Road safety improvements via motorcycle type mirrors, windshield, lights and horn

I also have a Radrover I use for work commuting. I pretty much did what @Mr. Coffee suggested for higher visibility when sharing the road with vehicles. The helmet mounted front AND rear lights with strobe/blinking capabilities is what I wouldn't do without. Vehicles on side streets really...

How accurate are distances on e bikes

My 4" fat tire Radrover wheel size was set to 26" in the controller. I noticed my mph was off by 1-2 mph on the neighborhood speed limit radar detectors. It wasn't until I got my wife her Radcity and noticed our mph and distance travel didn't match up on a ride (she was more accurate with...

10 mile commute. E-bike or standard Bike?

I'll second tq sensor! I get more of a workout, natural pedal feel, and a natural ramp up in power delivery the harder you pedal with the tq sensor on my Himiway Cobra Pro mid-drive compared to my "on or off power delivery" cadence sensor rear hub Radrover. The power delivery is extremely...

10 mile commute. E-bike or standard Bike?

I purchased his/her Radrovers rear hub 750w cadence sensor class II with throttle fat tire ebike back in 2016 for weekend fun rides. Decided to try work commuting at 6.5 miles direct by bike compared to 8.5 miles by car (+/- 400 feet elevation change between home and work). I do take...

    Winter Helmet

I still wear my Fox Flux helmet. I end up added a balaclava or just a skull cap depending on how chilly it is that day. I sometimes use the skull cap+balaclava below freezing temps. It can be a little chilly at first; but, I warm up pretty quick and sometimes have to pull down the balaclava or...

Staying warm while riding In the cold winter

Noticed that when I started work commuting full time all year (except during rain, snow, or icy roads). Learned to try and pedal consistent at one PAS level, pick riding gear that is wind resistant, dress in layers, and have ways to quickly pull down/unzip to regulate heat build-up.

What Do You Wear Over Your Eyes When Biking At Night (Especially During Cold Weather)?

I use motorcycle eye wear that is polarized (day) or clear lens (night) eyewear with the foam cushion around the eye pieces to limit wind, bugs, dust, or dirt into my eyes. I had issues in freezing temps with these types of eye protection would fog up too much or the freezing cold air would...

    Properly inflating tires

Seems like my fat tire ebikes and the wife's 2.3" plus size tires ebikes drop 1-3 psi per week. I have Stan's tire sealant, Mr. Tuffy liners, or Tannus Amour on all of them. I'm sometimes surprised how low my wife's psi can drop +20 and still feel and ride A-OK (she is 4'11" and 125lbs)...

    Slime in my tires

I ended up going with Stans tire sealant for my 4" fat tire Radrover. I add two 2 oz bottle per fat tire. We have just too many goat head stickers and catus plants in the southwest. My flats went down from 1-2 per month to 1-2 per year with Stans+Mr. Tuffy liners. I had to add a 2 oz bottle...
