    Another recomendation

Hello Bob. Most ebikes will fit your requirements, and almost all Pedegos will, except for the IGH, and that didn’t sound like it was a deal breaker. It sounds to me like you’re on the right track. Test riding can really help you choose the right bike. Since you’re posting here, I assume you’re...

What type of electric bike motor is good for commuting without sweating.

Lots of good advice here. Here’s my two cents. Since you’re a commuter, I recommend focusing on quality and buying locally if you can. That way you’re less likely to have something go wrong, and if you do, you have someone nearby to help get you rolling again quickly. Plus, test riding before...

Hitch mounted rack for my stretch.

We usually sell the Hollywood Rack ebike rack for the Stretch (dont recall the model number), but as seen above, the Thule Easy Fold works, too. The Hollywood folds up against the back of the vehicle. The Thule doesn’t, but it’s easier to install and remove if you don’t want to keep it on your...

    Fat-Tad indecision

I own a Fat Tad. I bought it a couple years ago, planning to convert it to electric, but haven’t gotten around to it. I’ve only put on a few miles but would be happy to answer any questions you might have. It’s a big heavy trike, but the suspension and fat tires make for a nice, comfortable...

Pedego disservice to the ebike community?

I’m a Pedego dealer, and I approve this message! :D Having said that, I believe everyone should wear a helmet, but I think there are enough people who disagree that no one should be forced to wear one. Getting more people out and riding makes us all safer. I get the OP’s point, that the...

    What kit to buy

If you’ll be doing 50 miles often, I recommend you don’t get a small battery and dont get a cheap one. Purchasing a kit from a non-Chinese company is doable, but if you don’t want any parts made in China, that’s going to be nearly impossible.

    Seat post suspension

FYI, the firmness of the stock Pedego suspension post can be adjusted. See the bottom of the post. Screw in to make firmer. Not sure whether it’ll be enough for you. I checked my wife’s BodyFloat vs the stock suspension post, and it looks like the BodyFloat is just under an inch higher. It...

    3 wheel recumbent

Velomobile! Cool! This might be off-topic, but for keeping hands warm, I hear good things about http://barmitts.com/

Looking for recommendations. I know nothing

I don’t have any specific suggestions, but if I were you, I would focus on looking for quality and reliability, since you’re a commuter. Your range and power requirements shouldn’t be too hard to meet, but you don’t want to have your bike breaking down often or have it sitting around because you...

How many people would consider a solar panel for their ebike?

In my opinion, solar panels are too big and heavy to be worth it for most applications. I know of a guy who put one on his tadpole trike and is happy with it, and I’ve seen a system designed for the Pedego Stretch that seems cool. It’s just not for me.

    Totally new to e-bikes

The best Pedego for your needs would be the Stretch. It’s a long tail cargo bike, but it’s only a little long, so it doesn’t feel cumbersome. We have a couple customers using it as their primary mode of transportation. It’s my wife’s favorite bike to ride! There’s room to haul two kids or an...

    Looking for "Twist Throttle" e-bike

I don’t think twist throttles are disappearing. All current Pedegos have throttles (most have pedal assist, too), and last I heard, we’re the biggest ebike company in the US. Much of Europe doesn’t allow throttles, so many ebikes made for both markets leave throttles off.

The price of eBikes is out of control

R&D might cost less when you buy off the shelf parts, but buying those parts usually costs more. I’d bet Seadoo does much higher volume than Haibike, allowing them to make a lower profit margin and still keep their doors open. Also, I’d guess that Seadoo dealers sell at a lower profit margin but...

Wall Street Journal article on a Pedego eMTBer

I try not to be too self serving on this forum, but I had to share this great Wall Street Journal article! It’s about a friend and customer who rides a Pedego Ridge Rider electric mountain bike on our local trails. Enjoy! http://pedego.ontraport.com/c/s/2jK/6uJ5/6/sp/sc9/6Rs0Pd/zZ5oG1O6vs/P...

Lot of Nice Ebikes but still Very Weak on sales and support

I genuinely believe that Class 1 and Class 2 ebikes can be ridden almost everywhere a non-electric can in California. There are exceptions, of course, but not many that I’ve heard of. I went to the OC Parks website and checked the rules pages for about a half dozen parks and saw only one that...

HUB vs MID DRIVE - how can I compare?

For me, one of the big draws of geared hub motors is simplicity. I don’t have much experience with mid-drives, but as I understand it, gear selection is more important than with a hub. They’re better at climbing hills, but only if you’re in the right gear. I think of a hub motor like a car...

Lot of Nice Ebikes but still Very Weak on sales and support

Yes, in SoCal, we have a lot of stores compared to the rest of the country. Orange County is where Pedego corporate HQ is located, so we have a lot of stores there. Pedego is the biggest ebike company in the US, and our model is dedicated stores, but even at 130 (or something like that) of us...

What to do with semi broken ebike?

I can't say for sure, but it sounds to me like a battery problem. It's possible your motor or controller is overheating going up the hill, but my guess is that your battery is weak or out of balance and your BMS is shutting the bike down when the voltage sags. Of course, replacing a battery...

    Interesting read.

As an ebike professional, I enjoyed that. Thanks for sharing!

What is the relationship between powerlevel and strain on hub motor when hill climbing?

I don't know much about this, but here are a couple of thoughts. Helping a motor by kicking or pedaling will reduce strain on the motor and battery, resulting in better range and less heat. It should take the same amount of power to maintain a given speed, no matter what your max speed setting...
