Why bikes and e-bikes will eat cars

If they all have e-bikes, a family ride to the beach sounds lovely! Four new e-bikes can be purchased for way less than one new car.

    Braking with both brakes?

I'm left handed and use the and rear brake differently based on the situation, I don't think handedness matters. After owning 13 different motorcycles and riding them over 150k miles, I've learned that nothing beats practice! My 1976 Honda GL1000 braked much differently than my 2005 Buell...

Best Foldable bike for Tall/Large man

The RadMini will support 275 pounds max payload but the maximum height listed is 6' 2". I think you would have to ride one to see. Perhap you can put on a taller seat post? The Sondors Fold X is rated for 300 pounds (from a forum post so check with Sondors) but I can't find a height range.

Magnum Metro, UI5, UI6 rear racks

I have the Metro+ which looks to have a similar rack, and I use an Arkel Bug backpack/pannier that I found used and cheap on eBay. Early on, I had one of the backpack straps slip out of the velcro flap and get wrapped around the hub (that was fun!). However, I don't use it as a backpack so I...

Best E-Bike Shop in Westchester New York--Any suggestions?

Check out Sleek E-bikes in Tarrytown. The owner is great. I bought my Magnum their and he’s been super helpful.

Would an ebike make sense for my commute?

And soon there will be a multi-use path open on the new Tappanzee bridge. They said this year but the rumor in Tarrytown is that it will open in March/April.

I'm considering an ebike for my 12.5 mile commute in suburban NJ.

I commute in Westchester NY and have similar conditions (and drivers). My Magnum Metro+ has been pretty good and meets your range requirements (I can do about 30 miles on max assist and average about 24 mph). However, it's a big bike. Perhaps one of the juiced bikes? The CrossCurrent S and X...

Would an ebike make sense for my commute?

I think you are a perfect candidate for an e-bike. You’ll probably want to avoid having a throttle as NYC doesn’t allow that, at least I think that’s the case. I’m also thinking that you’ll almost be as fast or faster on an e-bike vs. your car. Go check out an ebike at Propel, where you can...

Cortland - True Range and Reliability

She only has to go 4 miles but it is quite hilly on the way home (and the bike will be sitting at the school outside in the cold). I think the battery should be sufficient. The battery replacement issue is definitely a concern though...

    Battery Cross ref

I don't have my battery handy to compare model numbers. If you have the Dorado, you should be able to find a higher amp-hour battery, perhaps even used on eBay or elsewhere. You may also be able to order directly from Alibaba....like one of these...

Cortland - True Range and Reliability

My daughter has test ridden 5 e-bikes but she keeps coming back to the Cortland due to the low maintenance of the belt drive and internal gearing (plus it's just a beautiful bike). I'd like to know more about the range while on max assist (which is guess is just the higher of the two settings)...

    Battery Cross ref

If it's a Reention Dorado like this: Then, there are lots of bikes that use that form factor in both 36 volt and 48 volt with varying amp-hour ratings. My Magnum Metro+ uses it with a 48 volt, 13 a-h. Juiced uses them. And others. You just kind of have to look around. Perhaps someone has...

    Campus, hills, rural highways, NYS

I ride a class 3 bike around Putnam and Westchester counties and have never had an issue. I imagine they'd be even more lenient upstate. I have plenty of long steep hills and a geared hub drive does fine (Magnum Metro+). Foldable is probably not gonna happen and having a 40 miles range will...

E-scooters for rent: Taking a beating

While traveling to Atlanta late last year, I rode several Lime e-scooters. They are an absolute blast and I think they are a great alternative to walking or biking. The limited data shows that they are reducing vehicle miles traveled so that's a positive, here's one survey that came up quick...

I'm curious...for those of you who leave your bike locked for an hour or more, do you remove the battery and take it with you?

I leave my e-bike locked at the train station for up to 10 hours with the battery on it. It's locked up well and insured. No issues so far in 6 months or so of doing this two to three days a week. I'm more worried that someone will steal the seat.

E-bike bursts into flames on Australian hill climb

E-bike bursts into flames on Australian hill climb

It is a fire retardant but a CO2 cartridge will totally blow up. And, when placed in a campfire, it will explode and spread the fire out in a spectacular fashion.
