Buy when you have the money, do not wait for something better because you can spend your whole life waiting for that perfect unicorn. Just make sure you test ride the bike to make sure it suits your needs.

Reason(s) for the harsh Vado ride

So I finally bit the bullet and did something about the front fork on my Vado. After some rather heated discussions with my LBS where they tried to convince me that I didn’t know how to adjust the fork they sourced a new fork for me. A rigid fork from a bike damaged during shipping which they...

Direct drive + Pinion gearbox + Gates drive system = Lowest maintenance powerful E-bike

Gotta say I agree with Ravi about using a hub drive, pinion and gates belt for reliability, simplicity and low maintenance. in fact once you get rid of the derailleur you gain a good chain line and then you can use a much wider stronger chain that you can abuse but will still last forever.

Here is my official spare battery carrier!

Kills two birds with one stone, carries the spare battery and protects the Crown Jewels😜

Bored retiree here wanting to build something..

Have a look at this design as a starting point for ideas. I would guess a hub drive would be the easiest to adapt into a home built design. Grin Technologies makes everything you would need but if you only intend to go a few miles that would be overkill. Maybe a Bafang hub motor...

    Mercedes ebike

Actually some Smart dealers had these along with the Smartfor2. I tried booking a test ride but it became obvious the dealers weren’t interested in selling them. I think they sold off all their inventory to a discounter.

"I'm Riding in the Rain, Just Riding in the Rain..."

Although I try to avoid rain it won’t stop me to ride through a light rain. I will try to time a ride exactly after the rain. I love the smell after a rain when the flowers seem to have released all of their aroma. I look at the radar maps on the weather channel to perfectly time my rides around...

Second attempt at a simple maintenance stand

The load for maintenance is minimal compared to the jarring of bumps and vibration from the road. The welds tubing and fasteners can all easily handle the 40 pounds of lifting all day long.

Second attempt at a simple maintenance stand

I have never seen this before but I must say it looks perfect for chain, brake and derailleur adjustments without breaking the bank

Second attempt at a simple maintenance stand

Previously I posted a simple homemade bike stand for chain maintenance. It works well but you have to flip the bike upside down which is difficult for heavy ebike. So I came up with a simpler system that only works on bikes with rear racks. I used two pieces of wood I had lying around to clamp...

The benefits of high cadence or, "spinning" is also good for low drive-train wear

Good points Stefan. I am curious how far did you get on your last chain? I am at 3,800 km on the original chain, I expect to go a lot further on it. Another issue of course is the assist level you use on mid drives. I have found that the more I ride the stronger I get and the less assistance I...

Best time of year to buy?

saying that hospitals were not stressed is a disservice to all of our healthcare workers. My nephrologist contracted Covid and although he recovered he is now is unable to work full shifts. The surge was real and unlike our teachers healthcare workers continued going to work even though work was...

The best time to buy is when you have the money.😜

    Why are SurRons so cheap?

Your comparison actually illustrates why bikes are so expensive. Even the largest bike companies don’t do much more than design a frame, buy components and do final assembly. All the major components have additional costs because of the profits of the supply chain. Imagine if Toyota had to buy...

    Why are SurRons so cheap?

look at it this way when my Vado battery dies I can buy two replacement batteries from Specialzed or I can buy 1 SorRon and make 4 battery packs and throw away everything else.

    Why are SurRons so cheap?

My real point is that the bike is so cheap yet it has a good frame, good suspension, good brakes, huge battery and motor yet it costs less than a decent ebike.

Reason(s) for the harsh Vado ride

I used to wear normal Cycling gloves but because of the Vado I bought the Specialized Body Geometry gloves. The feature appealing to me is the 6mm padding on the lower pads. After 3,500 km and one wipe out on sharp limestone screening they are still firm. I will replace them next year...

Known Issues & Problems with Specialized Products + Help, Solutions & Fixes

its a long shot but my Vado 4.0 had serious issues with installing the battery. So I would start the ride with everything working then after hitting a bump the battery would come loose. Sometimes I would get a motor error in which case I would stop and pound the battery in with all my might. But...
