How an Ebike Changed My Life - NY Times Article

All of us in this forum who have been riding ebikes recognize the writer's experience. I wonder if the Specialized Turbo Como is selling briskly given that it was the only specific bike mentioned, and with a link to its website.

[Tip] Yamaha PW - How to check the number of cycles & absolute battery capacity

Thank you for the information, but as has been pointed out previously the readout provided by Yamaha is too coarse. It's provided only in blocks of 25%, and there is no readout in watt-hours. Also, please clarify. Are you advocating fully depleting a battery to 0% in order to calibrate, and to...

[Tip] Yamaha PW - How to check the number of cycles & absolute battery capacity

The battery button is on the battery, not on the handlebar display.

Is it bad to use highest pedal assist a lot?

I ride my Haibike AllMtn Plus on HIGH all the time. I get about 35 miles range in mixed terrain (about 40 miles when the bike was new 3 years ago). I climb many hills and the Yamaha motor has never overheated in over 7,000 miles. I know I could get greater range if I rode in STD (for Standard)...

1000 mile troubles. Are they common?

After 3 ½ years and 8,000 miles on two electric bikes (about 1,000 miles on a Magnum and 7,000 miles on Haibike), no, the kind of troubles you are describing are not common. There is maintenance, such as replacing items that wear out such as brake pads, chains, and tires. I did have to replace...

    Advice/suggestions for a mid-train road bike

Take a look at the Yamaha Wabash ebike, priced under your budget. I have not ridden one but it seems to be a good design. I ride a Yamaha-powered Haibike and I am happy with the motor and battery.

[Tip] Yamaha PW - How to check the number of cycles & absolute battery capacity

After 3 years and 7,000 miles on my 2016 Haibike AllMtn Plus: between 301 and 400 cycles (LED's 1 and 2 on). absolute battery capacity between 75% and 100% (all four LED's on), same as one year ago. Of course, it might be that after the first year it was 95%, after the second 90%, and now 85%...

I favor the Mirrcycle. You would get more answers if you change your headline to "mirror" instead of "light." :)

Carrying photography gear on a ride

I'm a professional photographer specializing in architecture and interiors, and I use my car for those assignments due to the sheer weight and quantity of the equipment required: three cameras, several lenses, an electronic gimbal, and a very sturdy tripod. Sometimes a drone. But I use my full...

How many times have you heard "that's cheating!"? ?

I've received the "cheating" remark about 3 times, and I've been ebiking for 3 ½ years, most recently last week. I was easily climbing a mile-long hill and ahead of me was a rider on a conventional bike, huffing and puffing. I passed him quickly and he yelled, "That's cheating!" I shot back...

Known Issues & Problems with Haibike Products + Help, Solutions & Fixes

Haibikes are known to run large. I bought the smallest size for a 2016 Haibike Sduro Allmtn Plus and it was, fortunately, the right size. If I were you I would try to return it and ask your bike shop to order a 48cm model. Haibike makes one even though your bike shop may not have one in stock...

Haibike SDURO Cross 4.0 for hills?

I have a 2016 Haibike SDURO AllMtn with the Yamaha PW motor and 400W Yamaha battery. When the bike was new my range was about 40 miles of mixed terrain, now it's about 36 miles, after three years of riding, with the assist level on HIGH. No problem with long hills. You should be able to get 25...

I'm stumped - Does such a bicycle even exist?

You add spacers to the headset or stem to raise your handlebars. I would also recommend the Jones H-bar with 2.5-inch rise. I did both and ride comfortably upright on my Haibike e-mtb.

Who spent a lot on their E-bike? Was it worth it?

My first ebike was a Magnum Ui5 which cost less than $2,000 if I remember correctly. I liked the power assist, of course, but I disliked its harsh ride, its lack of agility due to its hub motor, and the chain kept falling off. Within six months I sold it and spent over $4,000 on a Haibike Sduro...

    Posting pictures help needed

@BobG described how to resize a photo using Windows (post #4). On the Mac, an easy way to reduce the size of pictures is to email them to yourself and click on the "Medium" size button when composing the message (the button shows up on the upper right). The size options are Actual Size, Large...

Yamaha PW speed unlockers... SpeedBox2 vs EPlus vs BadAssBox 4 or 3.4

My Bikespeed-RS displays speed in mph or in kph on the LCD. When I switch between mph and kph, the conversion appears to be reasonably accurate. And just riding the bike it seems reasonably accurate in mph. I don't have access to laboratory grade instruments, so that's the best I can tell you.

Yamaha PW speed unlockers... SpeedBox2 vs EPlus vs BadAssBox 4 or 3.4

I have been using the Bikespeed-RS for over two years in my Haibike AllMtn with Yamaha PW motor. It works well and displays the correct speed. The only issue is that the maximum speed (attained, presumably) is a highly optimistic 55 mph. Made in Germany and I believe they ship worldwide.

It finally happened - ran out of juice

I have a Haibike AllMtn with Yamaha mid-drive motor. To repeat what others have said, without assist it feels like a heavy bike. It weighs about twice as much as a conventional bike, after all. I nearly ran out of juice only once. It had only 2% when I got home. By then I was riding it in ECO...

    Pedaling backwards

I added a kickstand to my Haibike AllMtn Plus, a full suspension e-mtb. The left-side chainstay had the necessary screw holes neatly hidden behind a plastic tab. No issues with wire conflicts. I believe most, if not all, Haibike e-mtbs come ready to receive a kickstand.
