    Front cargo dolly/trike conversion kits

Fabulous! You could add either one of these kits to an ebike and have a cargo ebike for a reasonable cost. And the ebike could be a mid-drive or a rear hub drive, a full suspension or a rigid or a front-suspension bike! Amazing universal application... Just about the only ebikes excluded would...

    4” to 3” tire replacement

Why not just buy an ebike that comes with plus-size tires? Plus-size is industryspeak for 3-inch (or thereabout) tires. I have one, a Haibike AllMtn Full Seven Plus, meaning it's a full suspension mountain bike with 27.5 wheels and 3-inch tires. The larger wheel (compared to most fat bikes'...

    Used bike advice

You are misreading @David Berry's suggestions. The OP said the original price of the bike was $6,000. Therefore, the $2,000 used price represents a 67% discount or 33% of the original price.

    ebikes need more torque IMO

I ride a 2016 Haibike AllMtn with mid-drive Yamaha PW (I think) drive. The motor is a (nominal) 250W unit with 60 or 70nM of torque. (I agree that the manufacturer's torque figures are meaningless. They never tell us how they measure them. This goes for the power figures as well.) I have yet to...

Rear rack for a Haibike fatsix 6.0

I second the Old Man Mountain racks for fat bikes. I use a rear one on my full-suspension Haibike AllMtn which uses plus-size tires, i.e. 27.5 wheels and 3-inch wide tires. Very few other racks have the clearance or mount as solidly. The thru-axle mount of the OMM racks makes them very sturdy...

E-bike for Daughter - 28 mph with hills and low step

If you like Magnum, why not a Magnum Ui6? It's a low-step Class 3 bike. I had a Magnum Ui5 three years ago. I don't think I was ever able to go up a hill at 20mph (maybe 15mph tops), and I doubt there are many ebikes that can. Of course, it depends on what you mean by "hill," i.e. slope and length.

    Suspension vs. Bigger Tires

As others have noted, an ebike is radically different from a conventional bike, and one must adjust to the paradigm shift. For most of my life I rode bikes without suspension, and I believed that a suspension (on a road bike, at least) added weight and robbed energy. When I got my first ebike, a...

How many with mid drives have broken a chain?

I have over 5,000 miles on my Haibike AllMtn and never had a broken chain. I replace my chain when my LBS measures it and advises it is time to replace it, which is usually every 2,000 miles or so. I consider replacing the chain normal maintenance.

Survey for those with higher mileage (2000+) ebikes

Today I broke 5,000 miles on my 2016 Haibike Sduro AllMtn Full Seven Plus! I lost a plastic cable retainer early on and, after first saying Haibike did not provide replacements, my LBS provided it when I brought my bike in for maintenance. Other than that, I replace the chain every 2,000 miles...

Sduro Yamaha PW-SE clunky pedal engagement.

Not clunky for me in about 5,000 miles and over two years. My bike is a 2016 Haibike Sduro AllMtn Full Seven with Yamaha PW motor.

Tubeless tires--please share experiences and ask questions here!

I tried liners and they were not effective. Maybe 10% effective, but certainly not the 90% that @Ravi Kempaiah cites. Maybe it's the goatheads we have in Southern California. Then I went tubeless and my problems were solved! My rims and tires were "tubeless ready" so I did not have to wonder...

    very long monthly commute

Your butt is going to hurt after sitting on a bike saddle for eight hours or more! I agree with @indianajo that a cargo bike would be a better solution than a bike trailer. If you need to maintain an average speed of 20mph, a bike trailer may overturn as you make a turn. It happened to me more...

Creating a new transportation infrastructures for bicycle commuting

This is an interesting interview with the American authors of a new book on Dutch bicycling culture. Note the comments on ebikes and comments on the lack of helmet use. "...the Dutch show that [for them], safety in infrastructure, safety in slowing cars, and safety in numbers are all far more...

Battery Deterioration & How Long Will They Last?

As I noted on another thread, after two years and about 4,500 miles on my 2016 Haibike AllMtn Plus, I estimate that I have lost about 5 to 10% of my range compared to when the battery was new. My range was about 40 miles of mixed terrain (mostly asphalt, some dirt, downhills, uphills, level...

The +$300 19.2 AH 48V Battery Has Been Replaced by the +$600 19.2 AH 52V Battery for CCS, RCS

I wish a replacement (or second) Yamaha battery for my Haibike were as cheap! A 36V 11Ah Yamaha battery costs $849 on sale. A 36V Yamaha battery costs $2.14 per watt-hour, almost twice as much as Juice's 52V. Compared to others, Juiced is offering a good deal on batteries.

[Tip] Yamaha PW - How to check the number of cycles & absolute battery capacity

After about 2 years and about 4,500 miles on my 2016 Haibike AllMtn Plus: between 201 and 300 cycles (LED's 1 and 2 blinking) absolute battery capacity between 75% and 100% (all four LED's on) In an effort to get more precise information I used a multimeter to measure voltage: When battery is...

    The Poor Man's Battery Saver/Satiator: a $10 Outlet Timer?

After Grin Tech told me they did not have the proper adapter for my Yamaha battery I bought this $9 timer from Amazon. It's very basic, only allowing hourly increments, but it works. One hour charges my battery for about 25 to 30%, two hours for 50 to 60%, etc. So, if after a ride my battery...

    New Battery or New Bike?

The Faraday Porteur is a good bike, although my experience is limited to test-riding one. It's best feature, I think, is that it looks like a conventional high-end bike with its double top tube, like some of the (non electric) Rivendell frames. Given that it has a small, front-hub 250W motor...
