Saddle pressure, numbness, and maintaining sexual health at 59

Two words: Bike Fit. There are a lot of dials on the machine, not just the saddle type. Bluntly if the other dials are badly out of adjustment no saddle will work for you and your bike. Like someone else said, this topic has been beaten to death here.

    TAIPEI CYCLE 2024

Yes, I suspect so. My own observation is that a bicycle company, on the average, will make a better e-bike than a non-bicycle company would. A lot of that is because I am pretty confident that the engineers at an actual bicycle company have, at least recently, and probably quite frequently...

Total e-bike ban after a fatality in Key Biscayne, FLA

Food for thought. Maybe we need to be better citizens.

    TAIPEI CYCLE 2024

And you probably won't for a while. My understanding is that there is (at best) very limited availability of any of those gadgets so far. I spoke to a Pinion rep about their e-drive last December and he told me it probably wouldn't be available in the States before 2025 and that availability...

Bicycle Deaths in New York City Are at a 23-Year High

Not just New Yawk, it also is happening in, of all places, the Netherlands: http://www.aviewfromthecyclepath.com/2023/04/whats-gone-wrong-with-road-safety-in.html#:~:text=The%20main%20cause%20of%20death%20for%20cyclists,have%20been%20increasing%20at%20an%20astonishing%20rate. Total e-bike ban after a fatality in Key Biscayne, FLA

m@Robertson Let's just say I very much hope you are right, but I do not share your optimism. On the comparisons with firearm bans, I think you know that is quite a bit different. Firearm owners are a very loud and noisy and politically powerful minority. And last I checked there is no...

Total e-bike ban after a fatality in Key Biscayne, FLA

Please explain how that would work. Given that e-bikes are a tangible physical product that you can't hide and has a large supply chain that needs to be operating behind it to keep it working and in existence. Banned e-bikes would be subject to confiscation. Most folks aren't going to risk...

Total e-bike ban after a fatality in Key Biscayne, FLA

You are making the assumption that such decisions are based on cold hard statistics rather than on perceptions. E-bikes have a very negative perception with the general public, the news media, and with elected officials. That negative perception is going to drive more bans on e-bikes...

    Am I adequately covered?

I'm just going to fly into the face of conventional wisdom transcribed here. You are far more likely to get a flat the more miles you have on your tire or tubes. Aggressively replace your tires and you will, on the average, experience fewer flats. Tubes are cheap so replace them when you...

    Rental cycle helmets

Why not just buy a helmet and carry it around with you? Yes, it is inconvenient but nowhere near as inconvenient as a traumatic brain injury. There are also highly rated helmets available at non-insane prices too: https://www.helmet.beam.vt.edu/bicycle-helmet-ratings.html#!

To the "Karens", and the "Carls" out there😂 Those riding dirty too.

Dude, I hate to break it to you but there are brakes out there that are over $1000 for a pair. I have to admit they look cool, but I don't know if the look cool enough to be worth that price: https://www.intend-bc.com/shop/trinity/ Makes these beauties seem almost affordable (probably the...

There is a whole universe of cottage industry bicycle makers that aren't made in China. In total they don't make very many bicycles but they do exist, and they certainly are "high-end bikes". Examples: https://co-motion.com/ https://breadwinnercycles.com/ https://www.stinnerframeworks.com/...

Total e-bike ban after a fatality in Key Biscayne, FLA

Yes, and e-bike manufacturers and operators have just as much political clout as gun operators or giant pharmaceutical companies. Right. I've been saying for years that we have a choice between working for some kind of reasonable regulations on e-bikes that do the most good and the least harm...

Total e-bike ban after a fatality in Key Biscayne, FLA

At this point in time, I think the people arguing for a total e-bike ban have the better argument. Civil action against irresponsible people (who might be unable to pay damages anyhow) is a poor substitute for preventing a wrongful death.

New Jersey Would Be Foolish To Require E-Bike Insurance & Registration

I think the choice is going to negotiate for some form of regulation or accept a total e-bike ban. Those are certainly suboptimal choices but it is what it is.

529 Garage, as mentioned, does the theft recovery very well. My fleet is registered there. The inspection problem is easily solvable. The most obvious solution is to have bike shops provide the service for a nominal fee (e.g. $40). From my point of view the purpose of a safety inspection...

New Jersey Would Be Foolish To Require E-Bike Insurance & Registration

I think the world of e-bikes has changed since I first discovered them in 2016. And I'm not really happy with the changes: We are seeing mass-market e-bikes with very questionable safety We are seeing very popular unrestricted e-bikes which are not street legal and are basically electric...
