Why did you buy a Riese & Müller?

A lot of weight. For some people this is NOT a big deal since they hardly ever lift it onto a carrier or have to take it up stairs. But for those who do have to lift it, in can be a work out in itself going up 2 flight so stairs. But for all that weight you get a lot of higher quality...

Why did you buy a Riese & Müller?

It did not for me. I too was targeting the Charger or the Delite. On paper they look impressive. In person also. But I think the bike was too much of everything for me at 160 pounds. I rode 4 of them. Not what I would call a nimble bike. So instead of going 10-11K, I went 5.5 K on a...

Trying to go tubeless - not making much progress

A lot of people double tape too. I hit mine with a light touch of a heat gun to "activate" the glue more, since I was doing it in the dead of winter in the garage.

Trying to go tubeless - not making much progress

Often the leak around the stem is not actually not what it seems. Air can escape from the stem area on the hub side of the rim, BUT it is NOT coming from the tire side of the stem. The most common cause is the air is coming from the spoke holes, which the tape is covering, and then going...

    20" x 3" Wheels: How Stable?

I rode some. I found them not as good for the following reasons: The extra torque makes it easy to slip the rear, and lose traction in turns. The lack of centrifugal force makes balance harder because the gyroscope effect is at a shorter "arm" or "lever" length Non standard replacement tires...

    Hi

Yes. And pedal strikes are only the start and most dramatic. Bad form will lead to your general in ability to control the bike. Add that it is an e-bike and your next post might be about a crash with pictures of road rash and about bone damage. Check out the numerous bike handling YouTube...

If The Front Wheel Lifts Off The Ground on a Steep Dirt Path...

You are way too far back. If you are sitting, perhaps your seat is not over the cranks? If you are standing, you should be able to almost hand stand on the handlebars on hills like that. Either way your front-back balance is way off. Perhaps try on flat ground hopping a bit. When you can get...

How much tire sealant? Answer: it's not 4oz

That seems like a lot. I use 2oz. The deal is when you get a puncture, the sealant has to be near it. So the puncture can be at the bottom so the sealant can flow down there. I.e. stop the bike and move the tire puncture into the right (bottom) position and let the sealant puddle around the...

    72 years old, need recommendations

30-40 miles is typical range with full assist or near full assist. But you got to recharge after that. So consider how you will recharge. RV site is a plug in? If you want a lighter bike (<45#) and reasonable quality, it will be more expensive (> 2.5-3K) Try to stick to a name brand so you...

    Can we change the culture?

Also consider what that persons life is like. It must be hard for them if during recreation, aka fun time, they go crazy also.

Are there any "high end" ebikes with a 500 watt motor?

I ride a hill 60% length of that on my daily, but rutted dirt. First 1/3 is fine, Second 1/3 is slow but sure, Last 1/3 is when I am temped to use the motor, but tough it out at a 1:1 crank, wheel turn ratio. I try to keep it under 200 watts human power to keep the "sure" part intact. Slow...

    Breaking down far from... anything?

Wow, I can't believe how much stuff! I carry a small bike multi tool, a pump and disposable gloves, cash. I run tubeless and sealant, these days. I do all my own maintenance too. I never had really needed more. I don't even carry the cell phone either.

How to Prevent Flat Tires on Electric Bikes

That depends on you. For many they would rather go $25 on lunch-dinner or towards higher end tires and fix the flat in 10 minutes as it is a "fun" chore. Others, don't want to do it themselves. However it is a good skill to know when help is far away.

    Breaking down far from... anything?

You are more likely to crash and make the bike inoperable than to have a repair need beyond a flat. I would suggest: Go tubeless and sealant, with a tube back up. Run newer tires; quality tires. Think about what could go wrong with the trailer. They seem to be less robust. I would try a non...

Do you wear a mask when you ride?

This is not a legitimate conclusion. It was take out of context, to feed the audience. FOX new is probably the LEAST reliable new source, although they claim to be only reliable one. The report is a WIDE NET of unconfirmed reports, non causal reports. It is supposed to be an early warning...

    Testing derailleur limits

Check the spring tension and the position of the arm. It should be such that is has good tension on the chain. Could be the chain is the wrong length OR the derailleur cannot handle the combination of the front rings and the rear gears. There are limits and optimal ranges

    Creo Pedal Strikes

I think just don't add weight if you can. One still has to lift-wrangle the thing every once in awhile. It does add up and 3 pounds added or substracted does work out to a fair percentage on a 40 pound bike.
