Late-Life intro to bikes? (Fear of bikes...)

That's a tough one. I have a 74 year old friend who wants to ride, but he has gone blind in one eye and is possibly getting a bit feeble. I'd like to encourage him, but there is some danger involved in this and I'd hate to see him get hurt. I have ridden bikes all my life and currently ride...

    Small wheel compact cargo e-bikes

I'll take a hill over head wind any day. At least you the hill will likely be over in a finite time. Wind is relentless.

Driver shoots gun at Bicyclist -- Herndon,VA

Some people are a$$ holes. I had a guy in a giant diesel truck gun his engine as he passed me (rolled cole). And he did it repeatedly - we were in traffic. I didn't do a thing to provoke it. Some people are just cretins.

Unstable tight turns with R&M Supercharger?

I don't imagine that battery in the top tube and 2X battery help handling. The range is nice if you need it, but if you don't, it's just excess weight.

Unstable tight turns with R&M Supercharger?

Glad I got the R&M Roadster instead of the Charger. I tried the Charger and it felt too large, kind of clumsy and heavy.

Vado 3.0: Worn out cassette after 450 miles

Wow, @Douglas Ruby, that is great range. My current bike is is an R&M Roadster and I think I would be lucky to get 40 miles on the 'tour' setting. Since I don't do a lot of recreational riding and use it more as a commute and errand runner, the range is fine. I think I'll try leaving it on...

Vado 3.0: Worn out cassette after 450 miles

Too bad manufacturers don't sell drive trains specifically for e-bikes. Something that's beefed up and has better spacing between ratios. Personally, I don't think it's necessary to have all the gears necessary for a human powered bike and find myself skipping gears a lot when I upshift. For...

    Thoughts on this bike

When I saw the alibaba link, I expected to see a cheap bike. For the price of what you've shown, you can afford to at least consider buying from a local supplier or at least ordering a known, supported brand from somewhere in the US. It's fine to research statistics and technologies, but this...

Known Issues & Problems with Ariel Rider Products + Help, Solutions & Fixes

Was the bike outside the warranty period when this occurred? Spares cost was reasonable, but if in warranty, it should have been covered.

    Torque Sensor vs Throttle

Getting the bike going to ~5 with human power is OK unless you have a heavy bike and lots of stop and go. I switched my commute route to avoid the danger of constant 4 ways intersections and stop and go found on the bike route. It's also hard on the brakes.

    Ariel Rider M Class Questions

Does anyone on the forum have an Ariel M Class (the 20" wheeled mini-cargo bike)? If so, could you provide overall comments on your experience with the bike and the company and specific comments in the following areas: The ride - With short wheelbase and 20" x 1.7" tires, how is the ride on...

Buying an e-bike on-line: some considerations for decision making

I've already said my piece on supporting your LBS above, but I think buying spares of all the parts is over kill. If you have a bike with a hub motor, chances are you can find suitable replacements on the after market. Same thing with controllers and batteries. Or let's say the bike has a...

    Torque Sensor vs Throttle

My 2 cents - I was riding a cadence sensor + thottle BBS-HD setup and switched to a Bosch 28 MPH bike (there naming conventions confuse and allude me). After riding the Bosch bike for a while, I took the BBS-HD bike out for a spin and was shocked how much effort getting that thing going from a...

The therapeutic value of ebiking for people with anxiety or depression

Good point. And for someone with motivational issues which can sometimes go hand-in-hand with depression, the e-bike helps. I'm not particularly depressed, but I sure was happy to have that boost when I started doing the daily commute to work. No more dreading the ride home after a long...

Riese & Muller Tinker vs. Walerang Tjugo

I actually wound up buying the R&M Roadster HS. It is one of R&M's cheapest bikes, but cost wasn't the factor. The Roadster handled beautifully and was light for an e-bike. And it has no problem maintaining all the speed I need and then some.

    My Falco review

Sounds impressive. I have a bike frame and parts that have been sitting around for years. Maybe I'll build it up with the Falco this winter. Direct drive motors are nice for the silence and although I've heard lots of complaints about hill climbing abilities without the benefit of gearing, my...

Buying an e-bike on-line: some considerations for decision making

The OP has some valid points about purchasing online, but I think some of it is a little overly cautious and pessimistic about the veracity of online companies. I bought a decent quality bike online and it was good purchase. After some time, the battery had an issue with capacity and the...

Riese & Muller Tinker vs. Walerang Tjugo

Probably a little late for this reply, but I suggest riding both of them. I did and really wanted to like the R&M Tinker, but it was geared so low it was tough to hit 20. The Tjugo didn't have this issue.

    My Falco review

My guess is it's communicating with Bluetooth. Can the phone be kept charged off the battery? What happens if the phone dies? Is Falco a direct or geared hub drive? Does it have a torque sensor? I've had several hub motored ebikes and found them quite satisfactory in terms of power, but...

Tires for R&M Roadster Touring HS

Be careful going too big. If a stone or debris gets caught between the fender and tire, bad things can happen. How do you like your Roadster? I took delivery of one 2 or 3 weeks ago and have been commuting on it every day. Could not be happier. And coming from me who second guesses...
