Motor Sounds - breaking in, not breaking down

I think maybe this thread has gotten a little muddled. My motor makes three distinct sounds. 1. the baseline motor sound. 2. the resonant sound at 16-18 mph, which I've also concluded is normal. 3. An extremely loud grinding/rattling sound, accompanied by significant vibration transmitted...

Tora Harris, Founder: Juiced is Developing a Folding Bike

Alright some 9th gear / 20 mph experiments completed. :-) Very unscientifically, it's probably 40-50rpm at 20mph in 9th gear. This would be super uncomfortable on a non-assisted bike, but because I'm just trying to trigger the torque sensor enough to cause the motor to assist, I'm not pushing...

Tora Harris, Founder: Juiced is Developing a Folding Bike

What's curious to me is that I speed limit my CCS to 20mph and I still often find myself in 8th or 9th gear without giving much effort. Why is the experience so much different for @Chris Hammond?

CCS owners who have changed the length of your chain

I had zero chain drops the first 700 miles and several in the next 300. No change in riding pattern. I suspect it has to do with taking a while for the various transmission components to loosen up / wear down. I took two links out of my chain and for now that seems to have helped quite a bit. I...

Known Issues & Problems with Juiced Bikes Products + Help, Solutions & Fixes

Have you re-seated all connections (particularly the ones between power and motor, since you did not lose power at the screen)?

Motor Sounds - breaking in, not breaking down

@Reid Is more vibration also normal? That's the part that concerns me - at times, the vibration through the seat and feet can actually be somewhat uncomfortable when the gears have engaged in this more loud manner. It's the vibration that has me worried about there being impending failure moreso...

Motor Sounds - breaking in, not breaking down

"stop peddling for brief moment and noise goes away until under load again." That's what I was doing too, until I realized that a momentary tap of the brake lever (enough to trip the motor cutoff but not enough to actually brake) is all that is necessary to get the motor to stop and then...

Looking for comments on the Juiced Bikes Rip Current S - Should I purchase or spend more?

He spends a lot of his time in China working directly with the design and assembly teams. Not that there couldn't still be issues, but I imagine he has a pretty good handle on the supply chain as a result. He's done some videos from over there that show some of the process.

Motor Sounds - breaking in, not breaking down

For me, this is at 16mph, but same thing. That particular noise seems harmless, even a little pleasant/rhythmic. The louder whine I have, I'm less sure is harmless. As @Bruce Arnold mentioned, I'm also observing this happening more and more frequently now (~1,000 miles). On the ride in this...

How Fast Can You Go Without Assist?

I'm still confused - are you using the speed limit to assist up to 20mph and then just keep it there by pedaling, or are you not using assist at all?

The three noises of the CCS motor - one not normal?

Thanks for the background info (I strongly suspected @Reid would have the scoop on this!) My only concern is if this goes from occasional to constant. Yesterday The Noise (tm) was present for at least half of the 11 mile ride, despite frequent motor pauses. Will wait and monitor the situation...

The three noises of the CCS motor - one not normal?

So, I've had my bike for a while now (700 miles or so of riding this spring). My motor definitely has three distinct noises: The baseline hum of the motor whenever engaged, which does increase in pitch and loudness as speed rises A subtle harmonic "whirring" sound at higher speeds. It's...

    Detailed Ride Report - Distance/Battery

Just keep in mind that by setting it to 42V it's really going to behave as a 42.99999V cutoff (see my earlier thread on this topic). If you are experiencing motor cutout earlier than you think you should, this is why.

Known Issues & Problems with Juiced Bikes Products + Help, Solutions & Fixes

I can't quite recall it now, but I remember reading (maybe here, maybe elsewhere) that it can rub against the neighboring component on the handlebar and get a little sticky. I'm sure you've looked but have you ruled that out before you mess with oil?

Looking for sugguestions on instructional video's for Initial bike setup and 1st few weeks of maintenance

My first thought is that "assemble" itself is a strong word here. It's almost fully assembled upon arrival. Front tire, fender, pedals, and the light are all I recall having to install. Stand would be overkill. Juiced has a couple of videos of their own if you hit any snags. Don't stress too...

Okay, talk me out of cancelling my CCS order

@Alaskan You have to remember that the vast majority of Juiced owners don't even participate in this forum. Of that small minority that do, people who have perfectly functioning bikes and/or are receiving good service don't have much to post about. People generally look to forums only when they...

    Resource thread: Battery Keys

Yep, my plastic broke off this week. Good thing I heard it hit the ground. I like the hack above of drilling through the thicker part of the plastic, going to do that tonight.

    Cadence sensor only

Interesting! I may have to try this again. The one day I experimented with cadence I felt it took a bit long to get up to speed and therefore I was using the thumb throttle to do so more often, and the whole experience was less smooth, which was a bit unsatisfying. But I hadn't considered the...

I Disagree with the Majority - My 2 cents

If this whole thread is just you trying to communicate your cash flow problem hypothesis, ok cool. I'm just trying to square that with apparently being labeled a "defender" ("I don't see how the answers given by the JB defenders (technology-related, company age-related) are good reason not to...

    Detailed Ride Report - Distance/Battery

Based on your volt readings, you appear to have used 25-30% of the battery on each segment of 15 miles. That feels "about" right given that you spent a lot of time around 23 mph, there was some stop and go, some throttle, and some elevation mixed in. The website estimates 51 mile range at...
