    Fathom E+3 Power Chain Drop

Your bike has a 9 speed Deore system? A clutched derailleur would do what a chain guide would do without the extra friction and noise. However, as far as I know, Shimano does not make a clutched 9 speed derailleur. But you could replace it with the Sunrace RDM900.

Help me choose a commuter bike in Iowa

A little off the wall, but I think the Luna Fixed Stealth might be a good choice as a commuter. Contrary to its name, it has a three speed internally geared hub which should be fine for relatively flat Iowa. Other pluses are a mid-drive with torque sensor, a belt drive for almost no maintenance...

    Father daughter ebike advice

EBR and this forum is primarily about electrically assisted bicycles. By dirt bike style, I take it you mean ones that look like motocross motorcycles as opposed to mountain bikes. These are rarely discussed here, especially since these type of bikes are not really meant to be pedaled. Also...

    Stache Bikelock

Have not seen that one specifically, but that type can be defeated rather easily. I'd bet I could cut it with an angle grinder in less than 30 seconds. Here is a similar lock being broken with a nut splitter.

Which chain is on the Vado 5.0?

Chains are offered in different lengths because bikes differ both in gearing and the distance between the crank and rear wheel. You select whichever length is closest to what you need; you will likely need a chain tool to cut the chain to the specific number of links that the bike needs. For...

Why are Rad Brake Levers Asymmetric(al)

This is common on bikes with only a right grip style shifter, because the combination of the right shifter and grip is longer than the length of the left grip. There is of course no reason why the left brake lever has to be butted up against the grip, but that is just the way manufacturers set...

    Wheels

6 speed cassettes do not exist anymore. They were only around briefly in the 80's. If you end up buying a new wheel and converting to a freehub/cassette system, you would have to convert to a minimum of 7 speeds. Most less-expesive aftermarket wheels are sold with a 8 to 10 speed compatible...

    Belt or chain!?

Because 99% of the bikes on offer have chains. I am sure most people do not even realize that belt driven bikes exist. It is always cheaper with a chain. Chains are cheaper, and derailleurs are cheaper than internally geared hubs. Of course over the life of a bike (that gets a lot of use), a...

    Suspension fork differences

Actually, it is coil (spring) vs air. The primary advantages of air are lighter weight and generally better response, especially at beginning of the stroke. Really cheap coil forks use only a spring; better ones also have oil damping so the suspension does not pogo. Air forks also have oil damping.

Anyone modify their RadRover to a 12 speed cassette?

The largest freewheel that I am aware of is a 13-40T, but it is 8-speed. I do not know if there is clearance on a RadRover to accept an additional cog. I rather doubt it.

    Frey Ebikes need your expertise

Frey does not custom build bikes, but from what I gather they will change components to your your liking. That said, a Gates belt is a different animal, so-to-speak. It requires a frame that has a "splitter" to allow the belt to be installed (or removed.) Frey frames are not designed with a...

Anyone modify their RadRover to a 12 speed cassette?

On SRAM systems, it is called the XD Driver, and on Shimano, it is the Micro Spline freehub body. I misspoke about the 9T 12th gear; that is not common. 10T is the normal 12th position on SRAM and Shimano systems. Only e*thirteen makes a 9T high gear cassette.

Anyone modify their RadRover to a 12 speed cassette?

Doesn't the RadRover use a freewheel? So in order to go with a 12 speed cassette, you would need a different wheel...meaning a different motor. On top of that, you could not use any 12 speed, because the high-spec ones require a special freehub body, and I am not sure you could put one of those...

Cup and cone hub issues HELP!!

What is wrong with your hubs? Are the bearings too loose or too tight? What kind of hub is it specifically; is it a freewheel hub, or a cassette hub? If it is a freewheel hub, is the axle straight? if it feels rough when you spin it, it could be too tight...or your hub cones might be damaged...

How water resistant are the Trek Allant family of ebikes?

I do not own a Trek, but the Bosch e-systems are well tested. They come from Europe, after all, and were designed by and for Europeans who ride more for transportation than Americans. That's why European bikes frequently come equipped with mudguards, racks, lights, bell, kickstand, etc. They are...

Type of Brake Fluid for Daymak Arrow

It is not a question of which is better, but what the brakes were designed to use. You cannot substitute DOT for mineral oil. You should contact Daymak and ask them which is the appropriate fluid for your brakes. The fluid is contaminated. Even though the system is sealed, stuff can get past...
