Rad Rover Step Thru or Blix Aveny

You should decide first whether you guys need 4" tires - it's not just extra weight of the wheel but the total weight of the bike is a whole 16 lbs more. She might have difficulties lifting 71 lbs on the rack. OTH, if you decide on a cruiser-style bike with 2.2" tires, there should be 500W...

    Tannus Armour installation tips?

Haven't tried the Armour yet but I'm curious - where would one trim it if he had to, - the edges or the inside wall?

12 months in: owner trials, tribulations and triumphs

AUD 1,200 (USD 900) for a hubbed wheel - probably because of shipping to AU. Dapu hubs are expensive because of poor availability on after-market. I heard people the US and Europe paying USD 700 for this.

Dapu Mid Drive Motors - are they really sub-par?

Dapu is Japanese-owned and (very likely) made in China like everything else. Their homepage has office address in Shanghai, China and says "factories in Japan, Vietnam, China". Most people are familiar with their hubs, not mid drives. On a brief glance, Dapu 250W mid drive is very heavy -...

Dapu Mid Drive Motors - are they really sub-par?

Subpar compared to what? Also, what type of Dapu - they are known for their hubs mostly, but there are Dapu mid drives as well. There is no reliable statistics. It "appears" that Dapu hubs are not worse than Bafang (for example). YMMV.

    Dumb as, you know... help?

We're on the same page - wire is not a culprit, throttle possibly. I prefer not to take wire ampacity ratings literally. The melt-down of AWG12 at the "official" 20A is not instant and depends on the insulation quality, while the OP noted high current running the moment he turned it on (or...

    Dumb as, you know... help?

This is not caused by 10/12 wire. If anything, higher resistance of a thinner wire will not increase the current flow. 12 AWG is rated 20A for safety but will handle 30A for some time before the insulation fails. Ask at the Endless Sphere, in subsection for Scooters...

    Roads closed due to COVID

They might want to make it a permanent bylaw in suburbs where sidewalks are non-existent. Coronavirus is not going away yet, Bejing registered a new record yesterday and had to re-instate lockdown in some districts. Several US states are also seeing higher numbers after reopening, and there is...

New to e-bikes, looking for cargo/commuter bike

I saw people hauling kids around in something like This. Not saying it was exactly this bike, - 250W hub is ridiculously low. Better view than the dad's back, and you see them too. Though with 2 kids it can get cramped.

    An idea for bike companies

You will still need a Bosch charger, before you'll be able to use Grin Satiator on Bosch battery. Bosch have a proprietary plug - not just "one of many", but proprietary - nobody else has this exact plug. So you'll cut the plug from a dead Bosch charger, solder it onto Satiator, and hack...

do wired bike lights with switch for handlebars exist?

I think Cateye Volt 600 is not a "wired" type, it comes with its own battery. With some work, any battery light can be wired into main battery - as long as the voltage is matching. OTH, if you need a standalone switch for your already existing integrated light - to operate it via switch instead...

What is a good mid drive ebike Canada

I stand corrected. They do list total 4 stores in Canada. None in big cities.

What is a good mid drive ebike Canada

GVRD has several ebike "sellers" - stores selling Chinese imports that nobody ever heard about. On the flip side they offer servicing of heir products - though labor rates are not cheap. After a year or two you don't see previously available companies in a particular store anymore, and there are...

What is a good mid drive ebike Canada

I believe Biktrix is also online-only. There is no store to try, no dealers. Canadian company, bikes assembled in Canada - from Chinese parts of course.

Loss of Assist as Battery Discharges

I "think" that declining state of charge not only lowers the voltage but also affects battery ability to generate current. This is why manufacturers don't install CC controllers, to avoid stressing the battery too much. Bosch motors are low-wattage, they draw very low current, so controller...

Pace 500 Limited Edition Delivery Dates?

There is a kit - display and controller, ~$200. It will get you a "cruise" mode, so you wouldn't have to hold finger on the throttle. I think it also has an option to disable mandatory 1/4 pedal turn before activating PAS or throttle, but I would think twice before disabling it.

    Mid drive without torque sensing

Many. Look for brands with Bafang mid-drives.

Once the 25 km/h speed limit hits....and you want to go faster

Many ebikes (in the USA) will get you to 45 kmh. You're in China, I don't know about speed limits there. Throttle often has lower max speed than on max PAS level. If you pedal on throttle, you can add maybe 5 or 10 kmh. Or - nothing. Depends on the terrain and how fast you are already going.
