    Allant Battery Issue

Thanks, I didn't mean to sound so strident, just that in today's world the country of origin is meaningless, you can get good stuff or bad stuff from just about anywhere. One exception, when it comes to coffee Italy pretty much rules. :)

    Allant Battery Issue

Robnj...a country with shoddy workmanship? You mean the country that lied about their diesel emissions thus hurting everyone? Or check out the fine German reliability of VW, Mercedes, Audi or BMW compared to much less expensive Japanese or Korean cars in consumer's report. Fine German...

    Tire Comparison

Yeah, I hate to sound mean on this, but I don't know what this test was supposed to show. As far as I know there isn't necessarily any correlation between the thickness of a material and puncture protection. You could have a vest stuffed with a layer of straw and another with a thinner layer of...

    New Radrover no go

Not rare at all. Most hub drive bikes with throttles allow you to start just by using the throttle. There are a few exceptions that don't allow the use of the throttle until one hits a certain speed, but since that kind of kills the whole point of having a throttle for quick getaways after a...

    Anybody know about escooters?

Not really a direct answer, but you say you have a mid-drive non-throttle ebike. That's not hardly ideal for what you're looking for here. How about just buying a class three, throttle rear-hub ebike? It's going to be a lot safer in traffic, and with the right battery a 20 mile commute is no big...

The True Costs of Owning and Using an Electric Bike

Well at least in the US there is one cost this isn't taking into account; medical expenses. I'm not at all sure about my figures but your odds of being killed on a bike by car drivers is many times higher than being hurt in a car. I wish that wasn't true, but until some serious thought is put...

    Bike radio

There are a few "neck speaker" units made by companies like Bose (Bose SoundWear) or JBL (Soundgear) that you wear around your neck and can play back music from your smartphone and use to take phonecalls. Since they are not physically covering your ears they do not hide outside sounds (which...

    Orbea Gain E-Road Bike

I guess I'm a fool but I really don't get the whole cut-off thing. I don't know of any other category of vehicles from cars to boats and trains that have it, they simply expect people to obey posted speed limits. Deacon 20 beats 15.5, but there's not a day that goes by when I don't see folks in...

    Orbea Gain E-Road Bike

Hi Arthur. I agree with what you're saying, but just to make sure it's clear, Orbea Gains sold in the US are class 1 bikes here, so no throttle - but they are restricted to 20mph, not the EU required 15.5 mph. Where I ride (which is totally flat, no hills) if you leave the power settings at 100%...

Looking for first ebike (tons of range, throttle, thick tire, no more than 1500 CAD)

Quite the opposite. This person asked for a low maintenance, fast, inexpensive bike. Everyone immediately starts saying you need the flavor of the month mid-drive. Cyclists aren't cliquey, they just realize that different needs require different bikes. Not everyone needs the same solution.

Looking for first ebike (tons of range, throttle, thick tire, no more than 1500 CAD)

Hi Twiglaser, don't mean to add to the confusion but be very careful about advice you get here. Most of the members have drunk the mid-drive Kool aid and would recommend them regardless of your needs. From what I gather you're looking for transportation that's reliable and easy to use. No one...

    Lots of Misinformation Being Used

I get what you're saying, I wouldn't worry too much about ebikemotion, they're owned by Mahle which is a fairly large German company. These bikes won't make much sense to the normal user of this forum, you can definitely get more battery capacity from other units. They are very much geared...

    Lots of Misinformation Being Used

Mass Deduction, you may want to take a look at https://www.bikeradar.com/news/cannondale-supersix-evo-neo/ ; some of what you're saying may be a bit out of date, or at least needs clarification. Cannondale is no stranger to ebikes, and when they built one for the normal ebike rider who wants...

E-bike displays, why there are some awesome and some are just terrible?

Designing good software is hard and expensive, not to mention keeping it up to date. The largest bike company isn't even a rounding error compared to Google, Apple or Microsoft. I like a minimal display like the ebikemotion display. If I want more I use my Garmin or the ebikemotion app, but...

    Cannondale Announces Quick Neo SL

No the current ebikemotion motor doesn't have a torque sensor. I certainly respect your opinion, and that is obviously the main like for the type of riders on this forum (mid-drive, torque sensor) but every review I've seen on the Orbea Gain and other bikes with the ebikemotion system seems to...

    Cannondale Announces Quick Neo SL

This Cannondale is their best ebike meant for riders who are aiming to maintain a road bike feel. It uses the ebikemotion system, so the hub motor and battery are exactly the same as the Orbea Gain. Their less expensive ebikes use the Bosch middrive system. The range depends a lot on how much...

Bicycle Friendly ? - where does your great state rank ?

Here's another interesting statistic. It may be nice to see states spending more and so forth, but as fatalities keep going up I'm a lot more concerned about how likely it is that I'm going to be killed while cycling than whether my state is spending money on enforcement, etc...

I want to go (slightly) faster than 28 mph

Is that really so important? Once you hit 55 pounds or so it's really not very bike like in terms of weight. If you want to go 32 mph and have a huge battery this isn't a lot heavier than some of the R and Ms with double batteries, panniers and all other types of stuff attached to them.

Orbea Gain M30 Motor sensor problem ?

Unfortunately people seem to think that whatever flavor of motor they prefer is the answer to everything. If we assume that Cannondale has some idea of what they're doing it's interesting to see that for their lower end ebikes like the Synapse Neo Se they use a mid Bosch system with torque...

    Stealth riding fun

This Saturday I was using the Legacy Trail here in Venice. Two younger guys on road bikes rushed by me going at about 22mph. That may not sound terribly fast but this trail is totally flat and there was a 10mph headwind, so maintaining speed for any amount of time takes a fair bit of effort...
