E-Bike Fatalities On The Rise In Israel

No, I still ride but I have to take my bike by car 1.8 miles so that I can avoid city streets, even though they have painted "bike lanes". It's a shame and ever since covid the police seem to have stopped enforcing speed limits so people are doing 50-60 mph on streets with a 30 mph limit. Guess...

No customer service response from biktrix about delays and shipping method

Spatzi, if you paid by credit card ( and no one should buy anything expensive from the internet in any other way) just do a charge back on the restock amount. If you have a decent card they'll charge it back even if there is some fine print. The van realizes you're their customer and they went...

Orbea Gain M20 - Battery Life???

There are multiple threads on this topic here, but a good place to start is at the Grin Technologies web site. I'm sure you're aware of the battery wear issues on iPhones, it ended up with a class action lawsuit. Newer versions of ios slow the charging speed by default when it gets to 80% by...

Orbea Gain M20 - Battery Life???

Most hybrids or EV (with the exception of the Nissan Leaf which has had huge problems with premature battery wear) have extremely sophisticated battery management and temperature control systems - electric bikes are more like cell phones or other cheap electronics so they have no temperature...

    Ebike Marketing Strategy

I know nothing about this brand but what's the big deal? Lots of folks who are in decent shape and not ready for a Little Rascal like single speed bikes, they're fun and require almosr no maintenance. No one would argue that they're perfect for very hilly areas, but they are certainly usable in...

    Cycle friendly streets ?

I've never been outside the cities in the Netherland so I'll take your word for it, but even if we limit it to city centers there are tons of people who swear up and down that helmets are absolutely needed - even if there's no scientific evidence that they make much of a difference. For what...

    Orbea Gain variants question

You know it's a shame they don't just add the ability to go from one level to the other instantly to the ebikemotion app. It would be easy to do and although it doesn't bother some people too much it seems to really get other people upset, so why not just update the app and make up/down and...

~50 lbs, full featured Watt Wagons City Commuter! Class 3 with throttle, $3199, optional electronic shifting, shipping July !

Thanks for the explanation, and just to be clear it's not your fault that people have gotten so heavy. It's always interesting to see folks spending tons of effort to make their bike a few grams lighter when the best way to lower total weight is to take a few pounds off their body weight.

~50 lbs, full featured Watt Wagons City Commuter! Class 3 with throttle, $3199, optional electronic shifting, shipping July !

Sounds cool, but you do realize that the average weight of American males over the age of 20 is now 197.6 pounds? It's absurd that people are now this big in the US, but it is what it is and with a weight limit of 210 pounds you're cutting off a huge hunk of your potential buyers.

    Cycle friendly streets ?

Why not wear helmets? Personally I think it's up to the rider, if they want to of course they should. But although you'll hear a zillion tales of people saying they would have died if they weren't wearing one, the few real studies done have pretty much shown that they don't help in a lot of...

    Cycle friendly streets ?

I agree that the Dutch are pretty advanced when it comes to cycling. Hopefully along with their other ideas we can pick up not wasting time with helmets. No sane person in the Netherlands would use them, the few people who do are always tourists who come from countries where they have been...

    Power outage

Yes, on flat terrain which is all we have and when there's no wind it's probably 17-18 mph with level 1 set to the default 100% and it doesn't take a whole lot of work to maintain that speed. I'm convinced that's why riders with the higher cut off version get much lower range. Cutting the power...

    Power outage

Yes I am familiar with Gulf Breeze, I'm quite a bit further south in Venice (southern Sarasota County) and I'm glad to see someone else who has to deal with insane headwinds on a constant basis. What's even more fun is that sometimes it seems like you're heading into a headwind both going out...

    Specialized’s ultra-light 120-mile range e-bike - Turbo Vado SL

Yes, the Orbea Gains, a Canondale and some other brands use the ebikemotion system which is a Mahle motor.

    Cycle friendly streets ?

It would be interesting to see replies from the US, Canada and Australia. I doubt that the European experience is very applicable to those countries where, unlike Europe, distances are vast and most of the cities and suburbs were built to be autocentric. There are a few exceptions in the large...

    Mid-Drive 700c Long Ranger ?

Captain Slow how fully do you charge your battery prior to a ride? I just saw a comment on the Gain forum about someone wondering why his total range had decreased after having used his bike for about 1,500 miles. If you constantly charge to 100% and use the entire battery (although it seems...

    Power outage

Hi Roberto. Noticed you're in Florida so where do you store your bike when you're not using it? Since the battery isn't removeable I store mine inside the house and not the garage because it gets so hot in the garage that I'm scared it would harm the battery - so I keep it inside where it's...

    Mid-Drive 700c Long Ranger ?

Maybe if you're going downhill with a stiff tailwind. These bikes have small batteries and the power is not expected to be used all the time. If you plan on mainly using it as a normal bike and only using the electric power when you need it, yes it's possible to get 120 miles, but any ebike has...

    Specialized’s ultra-light 120-mile range e-bike - Turbo Vado SL

Folks this seems like a great bike. It is meant for people who are primarily interested in cycling, but just need a little help now and again, in the same way as the Orbea Gains. The light weight makes them handle like bikes and not tanks and make it a heck of a lot easier to load onto racks...

    Mother's Day Musings - Kick-ass Mama E-bike

Interesting, but this looks more like a bike designed for the wives of the small number of bike enthusiasts instead of the general population. Living in Florida where there are a lot of older people I don't think anything would convince most older women to get on a bike. Besides the weather the...
