    eMTB Options For 2024

Yeah, the new Stance powers up in auto-mode. Good for noobies me thinks. OTOH, the SPORT assist motor is dead-silent, or nearly so. The PRO in my Trance "growls" - I'm told the primary gears are straight-cut and that's why they are louder. In any case, wind-noise is louder than both at any...

I find Giant auto-mode works great on road and smooth level trails. Otherwise, I like to choose my assist level. It does work pretty well, but there is definitely a lag in response. Set-it-and-forget-it has its convenience. I sure wouldn't CHOOSE a bike for it though.

Yeah, I really like my Trance. I'm not getting out as much as I'd like. Need to plan a few trips into the Sierra range this summer. I'm having trouble getting motivated. Having your kids around to ride with is a huge bonus. Mine just moved from 300 miles away to 1200. :(

The Rise M10 is $10,500 here, that's pretty steep. IIRC a Trance 1 is about 30% less. Compared to a carbon SL I think it's pretty close. Here's another good write-up/review on the M10 Rise: https://flowmountainbike.com/post-all/2021-orbea-rise-emtb-electric/ Here they directly comment that...

    eMTB Options For 2024

For a ebike, I'm all in for alloy. Unsprung weight is one thing, but overall, when you add in the assist factor, a few pounds is only relevant for the hardcore rider. I just don't ride like that, I'm not as fast, and I don't jump. And if there's some $$ to save, I'm all for that too. I spent a...

    eMTB Options For 2024

I would be sorely tempted to opt for a Rise, but man, that's a LOT of $$. And the local shop that carries them is the one that I had the run-in with on the new/used Trance for the wife, so they've lost a customer for life. The other local shop isn't that far away though, but I'll bet they don't...

For hub pawl grease I use Yamaha outboard lube - it has the consistency of maple syrup. I've done extensive maintenance on outboard motors over the years, so I have a variety of grades of lubes from thick to thin. I like lithium grease for a lot of things, but it's a little too think for hub...

Rear hubs...they're much quieter with some grease in them too. ;)

Road Tires for EXPLORE E+ 1 GTS?

AFAIK you can order right from Schwalbe USA. Sometimes there's an amazon seller as well. The last set of tires I got came from amazon UK. Arrived in about a week. EDIT: Looks like Bike Tires Direct carries them as well - I've bought a lot of tires from them, service is excellent.

Road Tires for EXPLORE E+ 1 GTS?

These are the best I've found - Marathon e-bike. The 28x2 does fit the 700c rim, and is a great size compromise for the Explore. We've never had a flat with these. Weight is rather irrelevant on a ebike. https://www.schwalbetires.com/bike_tires/road_tires/Marathon_E-Plus

I would rather carry the bike up or down the super-gnarly sections than endo-it and land on my head. o_O BTDT got the t-shirt. Wife on a road trip, I was riding dirtbikes with the guys, "Honey, I need to go to ER for xrays, I may have broken my neck." Her "Do I need to come home?" "If they keep...

Seems like the direct-to consumer Motobecane is a bargain. HAL, right? IMO, part of what you get with the higher cost bikes is latest and greatest componentry. Wheelsets, drivetrain, and the newest trends in ergos and geometry. And of course, really good suspension. There is quite a difference...

Thanks guys. John was upset that I was misrepresenting myself by using Julia Roberts image as my avatar, claiming I was a "just a poser", and that she wasn't "narrow minded and petty" like I am. 🤣 The hub-drive fat-tire folders seem to be all the rage these days. They even come with full...

Fat Tire EV in the $1k - $1.7k range. Help me decide

Haha, yep. When I was 12 I got one similar from Morini of Italy. Looked like a Honda QA50, but had a 2-stroke motor. That would have been about 1969. The one before that had a lawn-mower engine in it.

There is nothing discouraging here, John. And I don't live in the Netherlands, and don't care what they ride. This thread is about state of the art e-mountain bikes - the best of what's out there. I also don't care what people buy - they can go for whatever they want - it's a free country. This...

Everybody wishes there was a way to restrict this. Oh well. If you're in euro-spec then all bets are off - their 25kmh IS too slow.
