    Hub drive or mid drive.

You might also consider two wheel drive bikes. Bolton has one, Biktrix might, Eunorau might as well. Would be two hub drive motors but would also have a throttle. I have a throttle on a Ride1Up that I use on the beach. For having 2.4" wide tires without knobbies, the throttle works better...

Priority Current vs. Yamaha Cross Core vs. Yamaha Urban Rush

I know that a lot of contributors here like their belt drive and internal hubs, but the first thing I think of is that you would have a difficult time of altering the gearing if you need to climb more or ride at high speeds more than the manufacturer assumed the typical rider would need. At the...

Trek Allant +7s owner having the itch to buy a 2nd ebike

I posted a lengthy write-up on the Limited and the 700 (I own both now) in the R1U forum. Perhaps it will help you in your decision. I bought the Limited in part because I already owned a 700 from Ride1Up, but also because it seemed to be a lighter bike with a stronger motor than its...

A comparison between the Limited and the 700

Off the top of my head I would say that the MXUS motor on the Limited is a little bit noisier. Neither are real quiet, nor are they annoyingly loud. Usually the wind noise is louder than the motor. On the other hand, the Brose motor (with its belt driven mid drive motor) is almost silent.

A comparison between the Limited and the 700

"It sounds like you may have gotten an older model 700 that didn't yet incorporate the new pedal assist system that Kevin talked about in the interview. You could test that by ghost pedaling up to 15.5 mph again, then start pedaling with force to go the extra mph, and see if the power output...

A comparison between the Limited and the 700

My gripe is not about one pound, it is about closer to four pounds. It was listed as 51 lbs when I purchased it in late December. My attempt to weigh it shows three pounds heavier, and ebikeescape said it was 55.4 pounds - a four and a half pound difference. That is a lot of difference -...

A comparison between the Limited and the 700

I bought a R1U 700 in March of 2020, which got delivered in June 2020. Overall, its a good bike but I feel like I don't do any work at all when pedaling. I also wanted a second ebike, so that I could leave one at my place in FL, and decided to get a bike with a torque sensor. I also purchased...

Thudbuster of Suntour NCX suspension seatpost?

AHicks, I thought that was what you meant but the confirmation is helpful. ElevenAD, thanks for the reply. I had seen the Animaris and wondered about how good it was (or wasn't) The rubber bumper in the center should act a little bit like a damping mechanism.

Thudbuster of Suntour NCX suspension seatpost?

Thanks for the info AHicks. Would you say they both make the bike ride similarly smooth? I am less concerned about the longevity. If I get a few thousand miles out of it, that should cover me for half a dozen years. BTW, I'm 6' 170 lbs, so I would put less stress on it.

Thudbuster of Suntour NCX suspension seatpost?

Thanks for the reply. I realize that no seatpost is going to compare to a true mountain bike style suspension. What I am looking for are viewpoints from anyone who has used BOTH the Thudbuster Long Travel post as well as the Suntour NCX seatpost. I realize that there are other posts out...

Thudbuster of Suntour NCX suspension seatpost?

I now have two ebikes for city use. I put a Long Travel Thudbuster on the first bike and expect to get another suspension seatpost for the newer bike. The Thudbuster is pretty nice, but does not compare to the 160mm (6") of travel my mountain bike has. But it does a good job on city streets...

1000-1500w hub eBike with Torque sensor?

Check out the Ride1Up Limited. 1000 watts torque sensor and throttle. I have a R1U 700series and its a solid bike with good components for the money.

Point me in the right direction

Consider the Luna Cycles X1 Enduro. Carbon frame, RS Yari fork, 6 inches of travel, good brakes, shifters and tires as well as a dropper post all for $3500 - it would leave room in your budget for a street bike as well.

What's the thinking behind a torque sensor?

Take both types on singletrack trails and you will see the purpose of a torque sensor. Singletrack trail does not mean rails to trails, greenways and the like.

Point me in the right direction

I think you would do better to look for two separate bikes. $1500 for a commuter and $5000 for a mtb, especially if you are on double black diamond trails. Ride1Up, Espin and others for commuter, a marked down mtb from CrazyLennys could work.

How do you get onto your high-step mid-motor e-bikes?

I'm with Browneye on this - leave the pedal assist on the lowest setting, keep the left pedal at the six o'clock position, start it moving by pushing with the other foot and swing the leg over once its moving fast enough to maintain your balance. I'm lucky enough that I can still do it the...

Advice for older man wanting to get back on the trails

To the OP, be sure to have a pump so that you can air down somewhat for the trail then air back up when you are on pavement. To Ned37, perhaps the other bikers were going fast enough they did not feel safe taking a hand from their grips or diverting their concentration. Boy, the trails sure...

    Class 3 bike

"but if I had a class 3 bikes what would it LIMIT me from doing?" It would limit you to having to plod along at 15-18 miles per hour. Once you get used to doing 20-28 mph there is no going back. You may not use it all the time, but it is good to have when you want it. Do you buy a car with...

Seeking advise on a (mostly) grocery run economical ebike for ebike newbie (who rides a regular bike 2K miles a year). Steep hills involved daily.

If you want to buy from a local store the best way forward would be to visit each store in person. Trek, Specialized, Cannondale and Giant are often found in most stores. Plus you could look for an REI store. If you change your mind about buying in store, the next places to shop for good...
