Advice for someone who is bad at hills and has limited servicing options - budget under $4k

Gearing is easier and cheaper to upgrade than suspension. When chain and cassette come up for replacement in few 1000miles that is time to upgrade to 10 or 11spd. You will also need to replace chainring at which stage swap worn 40t for original unused 46t.

Should I buy a maintenance package from LBS

With ebike the only things that need regular servicing is drivetrain, brakes and tires. Motors and electrics aren't serviceable so no need for regular maintenance there. Given both bikes are belt drives with IGH only maintenance needed is slight tension of belt every few 1000 miles and IGH...

Advice for someone who is bad at hills and has limited servicing options - budget under $4k

28mph version with 9spd you will struggle on steeper hills especially offroad. Issue is gearing which is 15% higher than on most 20mph bikes. 46T vs 40T chainring. If you don't plan on riding everywhere at 28mph then simple chainring swap will give you better climbing options. Can still do short...

If Gazelle is under 2yrs old you should still be covered by Bosch warranty, just make sure they privode the purchase receipts. Outside warranty budget on extra $1000 or new motor or battery. Neither of which are likely to fail but should allow for it in purchase. With used bike I'd normally...

Interesting combination but give both use mineral oil shouldn't be issue. Easier just to stay with SLX. MT5 levers don't have left or a right so brakes can be swapped easily eg front on left or right. Great for rentals. The M7120 4pot typically come with finned pads but you can run...

Advice for someone who is bad at hills and has limited servicing options - budget under $4k

The CX has two optional modes +Tour and +MTB. Tour varies power from eco-turbo, more effort you put in more power ramps up. +MTB works same expect its from Tour-Turbo. +MTB is brillant for given controlled power delivery when MTBing as Turbo can be to much on tight tracks. These have to be...

handlebar rise or longer goose neck?

Don't do any MTBing, even gentle trails with adjustable stems and extensions. One large hit on front wheel and they could break.

    Need help with brakes.

If motor is torque sensing middrive you don't need brakes with cutout switch. Any quality MTB brakes will do job, don't have to be eBike versions. Given you aren't doing serious downhill stuff any quality 2pot caliper with cheaper resin pads and rotor 200mm on front and 200mm on back should be...

    Need help with brakes.

What bike do you have and what type of riding do you do?. Hydraulic bikes leave cable ones for dead when comes to performance and maintenance. Cables stretch and need regular adjustment and lubing. More adjustment when pads are changed. For cargo bike or hardcore MTBing 4pot Magura 5,7 or...

Advice for someone who is bad at hills and has limited servicing options - budget under $4k

If you plan to doing lot of MTBing and go down FS path worth spending a bit more and buying Powerfly 7 FS instead of 4 as it has better suspension and brakes. In regards to aftermarket support I wouldn't expect to visit bike shop for electrical problems. Most mainstream middrives are very...

Riding experience maybe more related to geometry of bike than it being stepthrough or not. Vado are trekking bikes while Comos are cruisers with more upright position.

From maintenance point of view belt drive wins hands down. We've two ebikes that are used regularly for commuting and leisure rides. I'm forever servicing derailleur drivetrains, that is just my labour doesn't include cost parts which is ongoing.

    smaller tyres

Why narrow tires?. Only benefit is slight decrease in rolling resist if run at bone jarring high pressures. Fatter tires give more comfort and grip especially in corners and when heavy braking. With electric assist rolling resistance isn't an issue.

Turbo Vado SL 5.0 or Fx+2

Ignore all comments about quality and motors country of origin. Both Trek and Specialized are establish companies aftermarket support shouldn't be problem for either. I suspect you will be upgrading bikes before hub motor on Trek wears out. NB hub motors are typically lot cheaper to replace out...
