PNW Coast Suspension Dropper Post - experience

Hi Stefan, I ordered a Cascade dropper post plus Puget lever from PNW last late November for my Trek Powerfly FS5. The lever and cabling came in a small plastic bag inside the dropper post box. I took the bike in with the new parts to my LBS to install and they told me the post couldn't have...

eMtn Bike with 27.5 x 2.35" tire on packed snow?

No snow last night so the road was well packed from the snowmobilers that were probably up here in abundance yesterday. Hardly anyone on the road today. Just a few skiers and hikers. Temp was in the high 30s. Really nice day. There were some slushy spots that caused the bike to get a little...

eMtn Bike with 27.5 x 2.35" tire on packed snow?

Thanks for responses. I'll give it a shot if not this weekend then next weekend. The latest forecast is for a couple inches of snow Saturday night through Sunday morning.

eMtn Bike with 27.5 x 2.35" tire on packed snow?

Been driving up to a nearby canyon within 45min with my dog and hiking on snow packed roads. Haven't needed snow shoes unless I take a side trip off the packed snow on the road. Saw some folks last Monday riding fat tire bikes. I think the tires were wider than mine. At least 3 inches. Been...

External vs Integrated battery packs - which do you prefer and why?

Recently I was at a mountain bike area and a co-worker happened to be there also and as I was getting ready to take off I asked him if he knew the general feeling about ebikes on the single track. He look puzzled at my bike and I leaned it towards me and pointed out the motor. He said no, no one...

    NYS eBike Law movement

Thank you Dave for taking the time with the excellent response. The quote sums up what this looks and feels like. Backwards thinking and stupid political games. I don't know much about NYS and Cuomo but I thought he was a more progressive. Historically I've leaned democrat but this kind of...

    NYS eBike Law movement

Could someone summarize what the bill was addressing? I first learned about Cuomo vetoing it while reading a news flash about it by Google on my phone this afternoon. And I clicked on a couple related links in the article. Pedelecs are already legal in NYS? Are there ebike classes in NYS? Like...

My Thoughts on Mid Drive..Hub Drive and Throttle

Interesting. I had the same experience at the SLC REI when I was first looking for an ebike 3 years ago. I've been going to REI since I was a kid in the 70s. My dad would drive from San Jose up to the then only REI in the bay area, which was in Berkeley, to get backpacking stuff. I still buy...

Upgrading to a larger battery. Trade in the new existing battery for a credit or just buy the new one and have two batteries?

I just read the review for the Giant Explore E + 4 on this site. Looking at the picture of the bike I can see that's a big battery. Looks to be similar size as the battery on my Trek Powerfly FS5. I will not be getting a spare battery for the Powerfly due to the size. Even if I had panniers on...

What are YOUR reasons for owning an Additional Ebike ?

The XM700 is my road bike. It's set up for comfort. Suspension seat post and suspension front forks. I use it for occasional commuting and for long weekend rides on the bike paths. The Powerfly FS 5 is for exploring dirt roads and single track. For eMountain Bike rides I can ride from the house...

Video: Gary Fisher on Why eBikes are the Next Big Thing!

Wow. Very engaging speaker. So much info and interesting ideas in that speech that I need to replay it a few more times to adsorb it all. Pretty cool video recording too. Made you feel right up there with him. And now I feel even better about buying my two Trek e-bikes. Biggest problem with...

    Suspension Seat Posts

I bought a Kinekt 2.1 seatpost this past Spring from a local Pedego shop even though I could have bought it from Amazon, or EBay I guess. I buy lots of stuff from Amazon. My purchases are too diverse to list here. But list includes some books, most of them Kindle, and recently some telescope...

Trek XM700+ still a good buy?

A new XM700+ 2018 model? I believe that's the last year they were made. The model only lasted three years from 2016. I have one from 2016 and paid more than 3500 for it OTD. Had no leverage at the time because when I ordered mine it wasn't even in the shops yet. But if you can get one unused for...

XM700+ cracks on rim both sides of two spokes

Can't help with resolving this issue but it's been an eye opener for me as an owner of a 3 year old XM700+ with 2400 miles. Had no idea a rim would crack like that and that it could lead to catastrophic failure. I 've never been one for pre ride checks except for topping off the air in the...

2019 Trek Powerfly FS 5 first ride and Handlebar question

Saw your reply. Yeah, I could probably use a dropper post. When I first started looking into getting an eMtb last Spring with my lack of experience mountain biking the dropper post was new to me and I thought it was more for advanced riders. But I'm finding there's lots of climbing trails and...

2019 Trek Powerfly FS 5 first ride and Handlebar question

I ended up with Surly Terminal handlebars with 34 deg backsweep and also had LBS install an UNO adjustable stem. This setup feels much better on my back. Now I'm learning how much I have to lean forward when going up steep hills to keep the front wheel from popping up.

NEW Trek Bikes with the New Motors and Batteries? When, how much?

I've owned a Trek XM700+ since 2016. The stock front single suspension isn't really worth having on there, at least not on the bike paths and roads I ride on. Spent around $300 bucks on Rock Shox front forks. The Super Commuter 8S came out a year or so after I bought the XM700+. I haven't...

    Ebikes in Moab Utah

Earlier today I happened on a link to a MTBr article on the BLM banning ebikes on "non-motorized" single track trails in 2014 in the Moab area. It's relavant to me because I live 4 hours away and it's possible I might someday want to ride out there. I take occasional day or two trips out there...

2019 Trek Powerfly FS 5 first ride and Handlebar question

Just found this site: https://bikepacking.com/gear/list-of-comfort-mtb-handlebars/. Looks like I'm not the first one to ask this question. Lots of choices.

2019 Trek Powerfly FS 5 first ride and Handlebar question

Thanks for the reply. I'll talk to the bike shop and see if they can get an extender. Can't hurt to try it. Can always go back to the original if needed.
