No bicycle should be allowed to go faster than that with or without assist on a bike path. Just as motorless bicycles are able and allowed to go faster than that on the road, so should e-bikes be.

Only that apparently making a bike go faster by moving your thumb or wrist hurts some peoples' feelings a lot more than doing it by moving your foot... and if it hurts someone's feelings, it must be outlawed even if it doesn't physically hurt anyone.

The models in those pics seem to have only decorative panels but seems that the solar model would have solar panels in the same area. This is supposed to show it but the image links are broken: http://www.leaos.com Sadly, panels of that size could provide nowhere near enough juice to move you...

I'm still puzzled about why lycras are allowed to do 30 mph or faster on mixed bike/pedestrian paths without it leading to bans on motorless bikes? Explanations, anyone...?

I get bored with the throttle too. That's why my bike has cruise control. :-) (Most of the time I use pedal assist though.)

Would you get peeved if a stronger rider on a motorless bike was asking you to move aside? If not, why not?

Sorry for getting a little snarky. This is a serious issue and there's no place for that here. Obviously limiting the assistive technology in bikes is the right way to do this. Which brings me to: GEARS. Did God create Bicycle with gears? NO! Man with his meddling ways and covetousness and greed...

That may work only in the 2014 Dash. I tried with my 2015 model that has a little different controls and pressing the power button for a long time only turned the assist level to 0.

If the land is protected simply by limiting how many people are physically able to ride, wouldn't it be even more important to legislate against too many people being in shape? If the trails get too worn out, raise taxes on salad and gyms and increase subsidies on corn syrup and so forth.

I thought I remembered seeing one posted but can't find any trace of it now. Perhaps it was some other bike or I totally hallucinated it...
