Do you think electric bikes should be considered mountain bikes?

The editor of the magazine Mountain Bike Action stepped down in protest of the publishers inclusion of electric mountain bikes in that magazine: http://www.bicycleretailer.com/north-america/2014/07/18/jimmy-mcilvain-leaves-mountain-bike-action#.U9JuwP4WV1x . Lightly discussed in the comment...

How to properly break in a new electric bike battery and extend its life

You ride your bike more than most of us. Perhaps you would be willing to write an extensive, detailed review of your bike and give us the particular and general knowledge you have gained. This is something I have considered doing instead of just interjecting bits of info into the forum.

Top Ten 19th Century Bike Innovations

Slate magazine has an interesting article that follows the changes and improvements in bikes that occurred during the 1800's. The article also takes a legitimate swipe at Wikipedia's bike history and is offered as a sort of teaser in promotion of the authors book, but is informative...

    E-MT1000 750W Mid-Drive Project

Yup, with a stiff breeze at your back, your distance travelled increases tremendously before the battery charge depletes recognizably; inversely, the ride back home against that same wind drains the battery at a surprising rate. Something to remember on windy days.

    E-MT1000 750W Mid-Drive Project

What I have is: a 60lb Motiv Shadow, my weight: 180lbs, 500 watt geared rear hub motor, 36V 15AH battery, riding on basically a flat surface, in a dead calm, with no real pressure pedalling, I get 30-32 miles at 18-22 mph with the last two miles at a sharply reduced speed. If I travel at 9-12...

    E-MT1000 750W Mid-Drive Project

From what I have read somewhere, if two miles per Amp Hour is a legit estimate, that 48V, 40Ah battery should give a range of about 80 miles! However, I think that the extra weight would cut into that: when half+ discharged just think about all that extra weight you gotta drag around.

    E-MT1000 750W Mid-Drive Project

Wow! 48v 25AH... From what company did you purchase that size battery, and what did it cost you, if you don't mind me asking?

    Light Duty Bike Trailer

Here is the option I chose for hauling stuff around: http://www.amazon.com/foldable-bicycle-trailer-carrier-0016BL/dp/B00E7J0ML2/ref=sr_1_18?ie=UTF8&qid=1405745994&sr=8-18&keywords=bike trailers Modifications: I did have to weld two nuts back to back in order to attach the trailer to the rear...

36 volt vs 48 volt electric bike batteries

After riding my 36 Volt bike for 600+ miles, I think that I would go for the 48 Volt system instead. There is only one reason for this, and that is I would like to be able to match the acceleration of the average car. I have come to believe that it may be safer to get into a regular lane and...

Can anything be done about wind noise?

Thanks guys for your responses. The Wind-Blox sort of reminds me of the foam that is placed around a microphone to eliminate wind noise. I'm sold.

Attn Big Cat Hampton Owners: What can you say to keep me from buying one?

If you have a pressing need for a folding bike, then buying this model would perhaps be justified. I personally like the stiffness of a single unified frame "no wiggling allowed!". Court also reviewed the Big Cat Cruiser model. I think that I would take a hard look at that one instead.... From...

Can anything be done about wind noise?

I enjoy riding my Motiv Shadow. However, as I start to ride over 12 mph, the wind blowing past my ears begins to bother me. At speeds of 20 to 24 mph the racket is really annoying. I wear earplugs, and they help somewhat, but the wind blows across them too, and transmits sound almost as loud. I...

    Sand based Lithium Ion Batteries

According to an article in natureworldnews.com, new sand based lithium batteries are three times better than the current industry standard. This battery will cost less, will be three times as energy dense, and have a lifespan three times as long. If true, we can expect a revolutionary change in...

Do you think building your own ebike makes sense?

Yeah, Most of those points are what I've thought through already. Especially aesthetics... If we are being honest, we would all probably admit that riding a good looking bike makes us feel good. Thats a big deal. There is no way can I make a good looking ebike. In my mind, that darn battery...

Do you think building your own ebike makes sense?

It had occurred to me, before I bought my Motive Shadow, to just build my own ebike. After spending some time at endless-sphere I decided that I wasn't really interested in learning all the "how to do this or that" nor spending the hours necessary to build what I could just buy. All I really...

Yesterday, there was a write up concerning the A2B ebike in Forbes Magazine. If the mainstream media starts to pay attention to ebikes, then it won't be long before increased demand follows.
