Are Kenda Juggernaut tires not so good?

I run a shop. I sell tires. So what if 30 tpi is on-paper a poor spec? If you like them and haven't had issues, I say use what you like.

    A Van and an Ebike

I know many people that use a regular bicycle for transportation. I commuted for years on one. Frankly, an e-bike is a luxury. Yes, it makes getting around easier. But if you haven't got $1000+, or can't afford to spend that kind of cash, well, there's nothing wrong with a regular old-and-used...

    Lectric XP Motor Torque

I read a comparison of hub motors online someplace, and all their tests showed that most all hub motors put out around 30-40Nm of torque, regardless of manufacturer's claims.

    ONYX E-Bike Factory Tour

They do not even pretend that it is an e-bike. Yeah, it has pedals, and they are functional, but there is no pedal assist whatsoever.

$2000 and You Wanna Buy An eBike?

If my bike had a throttle, I'm sure I would enjoy using it. But I don't "need" a throttle, and needing one eliminates a heck of a lot of very good bikes. If you gotta have one, that is fine by me. The only reason I "hate" throttles is when I see people using it as the primary means of...

Is this bike the right one for my build and wish list?

Seems pretty nice to me. The drawback...at least for me...is its class 1 status. I would not be happy with a 20 mph cutoff. But if you primarily want the motor for helping on hills, then the low weight and added assistant may be all you want. Size of course may be the biggest issue; you would...

$2000 and You Wanna Buy An eBike?

Just curious to know why you need a throttle.

    Cable Lubrication

You would think that, but you can actually buy housing that is pre-lubricated, and Shimano also sells special cable grease. It definitely helps with the basic galvanized cables that come stock on most bikes; these tend to rust over time. When you replace your cables, I recommend replacing them...

XP Step Thru heel hitting kickstand

    You can try pedal extenders.

Why are the e-bike sold only with heavy inefficient fat tires?

It has puzzled me as well. Fat regular bikes were a fad that came and went, but I guess the motor changed the dymanics of the equation; the motor makes up for the inefficiency. I think it is mostly a North American phenomenon, where bikes are still primarily a toy.

Seriously (not subjectively)... Do suspension forks improve safety on Urban ebikes?

The short answer is no, at least not that I have ever seen. If there is data out there, any improvement would likely be very dependent on the quality and adjustability of the fork, and also the tuning of the fork by the user. Really cheap forks are worse than rigid ones. Same for poorly...

Where are the Shimano and Bosch motors made?

Primarily only the top-end stuff comes out of Japan. The rest is manufactured in China, Malaysia, and Singapore.

$2000 and You Wanna Buy An eBike?

There is nothing wrong with the more expensive Bikes Direct bikes. But their entry level bikes are pretty rubbish and are only worth the price paid; their "list price" stretches the truth beyond belief.

    Any red flags?

Aside from the highest end bikes, all companies have to make choices in specification. They are not trying to cut corners per se, but trying to hit a price point at which they think is right for the market. Of course that does not excuse a poorly weather sealed button pad.

    Any red flags?

As someone who has worked on bikes professionally for decades, I scratch my head and sometimes curse design choices made by Giant. But I can say that about any company, really. One thing I am sure of though is that Giant builds a quality product second to none. While most brands contract with...

    Broken Hanger :(

I always recommend having a spare hanger in your on-bike repair kit; that way you can replace it in the field and not be stranded.

    Fifield Jetty?

It is just another Chinese bike like dozens of others. You could remove their name and put another on it and no one would be able tell the difference.

What will eBikes look like in 2030?

Can't say I have had the "pleasure" to work on no-name hydros, but I have had to work on cheap mechanical disc brakes. They are just barely better than cheap rim brake calipers...and I am not even sure about that. Getting them to not rub and still stop often requires lots of swearing. 😛

    Loose front fork?

Does the bike have a suspension fork? If it does, it could be that there is play in the suspension itself, which is not uncommon on cheap forks. There are bushings inside which have to be tight enough so there is no play, but also loose enough so that the suspension can move. Normally you cannot...
