Photos from Rail to Trails ride

Finally figured out how to attach photos. These are from the 45 mile paved Banks/Vernonia rail trail west of Portland Oregon. It was a lot of fun and I'm sure we will be doing it again. As you can see on my display the magnums have great range; we finished with the same voltage of 48 v and 4...

Should pedaling charge the battery? Or going downhill?

I like the downhill speed of a coasting bike and wouldn't want to slow down in order to charge a battery. The amount captures would be rather small and would bring added mechanical complication. I am often asked the same thing about capturing energy followed quickly by "do you charge it when...

"Seattle e-bike company says tariffs could puncture growth of its $50M business"

Seems disingenuous to claim they are eating $175 by raising their prices only $200. $375 would be the tariff on $1500. I'm pretty sure they don't sell them for the same price it costs to make them. A 25% tariff on an $800 value at customs would, surprise-surprise, equal $200. Not that I like...

Flat tire and battery fell out!

That sounds like good stuff and I'm sure it is great at what it was made for. But it appears that what it is designed for is mostly other than what I was suggesting. The Loctite will likely help with the situation described where a set screw was coming loose. The Dielectric grease will help...

How Many Use a GPS On Their Ebike?

The cell service is no longer an issue with google maps. You can highlight a region and download it to your phone for use offline. The GPS on phones is really very good compared to the earlier versions of Garmin GPS I used 10-15 years ago. I use a retired and scrubbed Iphone 5 if I want to go...

Riding your class 3 on the sidewalk? In the bike lane?

I agree, for me it is threat assessment. I have one short section I ride on the sidewalk but only on my trip home. The alternative to throw myself into a mass of cars merging to one lane and then try to cross to the center lane. Not going to happen. However, when I am on any sidewalk I slow...

Flat tire and battery fell out!

Dielectric Grease is a good way to go. Locktite, among others, makes this and I'm pretty sure you can find it at your local auto parts store. Put a small amount on the contacts and it will protect from rust, corrosion, salt, etc. I first learned of this when I had a dash alarm that my airbag...

    Update on Battery mileage

My wife and I took the Metro+ and Cruiser out on a paved rail/trail bike path. The battery capacity turned out to be pretty great. The trail is 21 miles long and we went out and back for a total of 43 miles. The elevation difference at each end is about 440 feet. However the peak gain at the...

Sealer for tire flats-Green Slime, Flat Attack, Zefal or Fix A Flat for Bikes?

I parked the bike and rotated the tire opposite of the position I filled it. After a couple of days this seemed to improve the situation a lot. We went on a 45 mile ride this week and there were no issues so I suppose things are ok now.

    A 'real' flat-resistant tire?

My bike has the Schwalbe Marathon tires. I think they rate them 4/5 for flat resistance. They have a 3mm built in liner whereas the Marathon Plus has a 5mm liner and can drive over tacks with no problem. As for the tires I like them a lot. They seem not to wear at all after 500 miles, look...

Sealer for tire flats-Green Slime, Flat Attack, Zefal or Fix A Flat for Bikes?

I put Slime in my wife's cruiser with 26" tires. I took it out a few days later and felt this awful shudder when I used agressive braking. Checked it out when I got home. Brakes are fine and perfectly aligned but the rear wheel is really out of balance. I'm guessing that the higher speed...

    Project Magnum Metro+

As a follow up I wanted to say that these adjustments have made all the difference. I think I am dialed in now having taken a 22 mile ride today with zero soreness to the lower back/tailbone area.

Battery range and notes for the magnum metro plus

I have no doubt you are correct on this. I was just interested in finding out if the Magnum advertising is accurate. I think it speaks well of the company that they seem to be on the side of conservative in a day and age when many companies stretch the bounds of practicality. I don't peddle...

Battery range and notes for the magnum metro plus

My wife and I are getting ready to take scenic trip on our bikes in a little over a week. The total distance is 42 miles. I wanted to do a test this week to make sure we were not going to be peddling a 57 lb bike for the final stretch. The magnum website indicates a range of 30-50 miles. I...

    Project Magnum Metro+

Thanks for the ideas. I'm going to keep them in mind. It occurred to me a few days ago that the seat was origianlly set up with the idea that I would be less upright and and because of that it might be distributing more of my weight to the back (tailbone). I have experimented raising the...

Help! Researching 1st ebike, need recommendations.

I'm 59 with a bad wrist which meant I wanted to sit more upright. I would second the thought of checking out the Magnum brand. I have not regrets with the Magnum Metro + I bought. And don't discount the Magnum Cruiser. It looks unwieldy but my wife got one and I love to take that out on...

    Project Magnum Metro+

How do you like the seat. I'm considering a change for my metro + too. Because of a bad wrist I have my bike set up to be more upright to take pressure off the wrist. But the seat that came on the bike is designed, I think, to work for a less upright position. I've adjusted with some success...

    Recommendations Hitch Bike Rack

My friend turned me onto an ebike rack by Hollywood. https://hollywoodracks.com/collections/bike-rack-hitch/products/sport-rider-electric-bike-hitch-rack?variant=15862468102 I believe it was just under $400, was quite easy to assemble and can handle two bikes up to 80 lbs each and 3" tires...

    New ebiker and Magnum owner

My wife and I are going to do a 40 mile ride on our two bikes on a paved bike trail built on a former railroad grade. So only gentle hills. Me on my Metro + and her on the cruiser. I'll post afterward on how that experience went.
