    ISO Canadian fat tire e-bike

I've had a little interaction with a Biktrix guy on another forum, and he seems like a really good guy. I trust his integrity, and he seems to use good components for the price. I don't know how strong his company is, so I wouldn't know how reliable his long term support will be, but I'd worry...

Geared motor making noise when slowing down

Diagnosing a sound is very hard on a forum. There could be a number of causes. Here are a few thoughts. Some motors do just make more noise than others. Then again, a noisy geared motor could mean worn gears. Sometimes, a noise sounds like the motor, but it's actually something else vibrating...

20 modifications to my Pedego Interceptor

Nice bike! And great info. BodyFloat seat posts rock! Haven't tried front suspension on an Interceptor yet. Rides a lot nicer with it? I noticed you mentioned little details like the seat post shim, but you didn't mention the headset. Looks like you converted from threaded to threadless, or...

Why Electric Bikes Shouldn't Be Allowed on Mountain Biking Trails?

In my opinion, the most compelling argument against regulating eMTBs as regular MTBs has to do with the fight for trail access against hiking and equestrian groups who want to ban all bikes. MTB groups feel that if they include eMTBs, hikers and equestrians will fight even harder against them...

1Up Bike Rack for towing bike - Which choice should I choose?

Can't speak to your specifics, but our Heavy Duty 1up rack for 2" receiver has held up great after over 2 years of use. We have the 2 bike rack with extensions for two more. It flexes a lot under the weight of 4 ebikes, but it hasn't broken! The only issue we've had is that the mechanism that...

    Electric Bike Weight Ratings

I own a Pedego store, so I have a fair number of tools, including a Park Tool spoke tension gauge. I tap the spokes with my spoke wrench and adjust according to the tone, then double-check with the guage afterward. I'm getting to where I'm happy with all but one or two. Some people flex the...

E-bikes at Costco ( in Santa Cruz, CA)

We had a customer come into our shop the other day. He said he'll never buy an ebike from Costco again. He loved the bike he got, but when he had a serious problem with it (manufacturering defect), they couldnt fix it. They gave him a refund, so he was happy overall, but he would have preferred...

    battery keeps shutting down

Did you ask them to cover it under warranty? Some companies don't mind bending the rules a little, especially if it's only a week. Pedego HQ was happy to replace a motor for a customer of ours who was a week out of warranty.

    E-bikes for Kids

California removed the ebike age restriction so Pedego introduced 20" and 24" fat tire Trail Trackers. Availability is limited right now, but it shouldn't be long before they're fully stocked.

    Electric Bike Weight Ratings

Pedego bikes with the mag wheel upgrade are rated for 450 pounds. I agree with the spoke comments. Most bikes can handle higher than their rating, but check the spokes more often. Uneven tension will put more strain on tight spokes and less on loose ones, making the tight ones more likely to fail.

    DYI Recumbent Tandem

Very cool build! Rack and pinion is unusual on a tadpole, isn't it? Glad to hear you're designing with bumpsteer in mind. I hope the chain is precise enough. Looking forward to seeing it develop!

newbie to ebikes - commuter and child-pulling friendly?

My wife is about 5' or 5'1", and one of the reasons we opened a Pedego store is that she loves Pedego's smaller bikes. MLB mentioned 24" tires. We have two models with that size, an Interceptor and a Comfort Cruiser. We've put a person as short as 4'9" on these. We also have a 26" Step-Thru City...

    27.5" conversion choices?

If you're having trouble finding kits for a 27.5" bike, you could always have a hub motor custom spoked into a 27.5" rim. Alternatively, you could try putting a 26" kit on her 27.5" bike. The Marlin has disk brakes, right? It'll change the geometry a little, lowering the back, but it might not...

Possible to make an Ebike go 75+ mph?

Just about anything possible with enough money, but it won't be safe nor legal. Bicycle frames and components aren't made to handle the stresses of that speed. I recommend converting a motorcycle.

    New Tesla ebike battery option

I think I read somewhere that a Tesla gigafactory will start producing these in a couple months or so! We'll just have to wait and see how long it'll take to trickle down to ebikes.

    Too strong bike lights

I don't know how common friction generators are, but I know some cyclists like hub generators. I don't know how much power they put out, but I would guess not enough to drive a "too strong" light. The brightest bicycle lights are too bright for street use. MTBers use them on night rides. They...

    Kit vs Purpose Built

Choosing between production bikes and DIY and choosing which kit depends a lot on your wants and skills. DIY is less money but more time and skill. The less handy you are, the more time it will take. Less expensive kits might mean a higher risk of issues that will need to be solved. I own a...

    last mile solution options?

An ebike is perfect for a five mile commute, but if you are set on taking the bus, it might not be worth loading one for a mile ride. They're often too heavy for bus racks, and taking a folding one inside can't be easy. The only kick scooter I've ridden was an EcoReco. I don't recall which...

Ha! I just looked at a Ridge Rider, and it says 31.8 right on the stem!

    Help with Prodecotech Phantom 2

I assume Prodeco has a tech department that could help you diagnose this quickly. Have you tried them? I'm no expert when it comes to diagnosing problems like this, and I know little about Prodecos, but I can make some guesses. It's not likely a battery problem, especially if your charge lights...
