    Chain ring tooth selection

@ci2i68 It was really good to see this post when I got up this morning - a pioneer spirit :D.

    Chain ring tooth selection

Having thought about the problem on my Sunday morning ride out :) , it would be possible to achieve the spacing to fit a 52T by wrapping the spindle with self-adhesive shim tape, and then refitting the spider.

    Chain ring tooth selection

Because the spider needs a push fit to mate with the spindle, I don't think a spacer will fly - it needs a longer spindle, which is rather difficult in the circumstances, and even that might lead to misalignment, as you say . However I have found that a halfway house might be possible, as...

Swap Como 4.0 48T chainring with Vado 4.0 40T chainring

I don't know if this will be of any interest?

    Chain ring tooth selection

I think that Specialised, if they had their time again, might make it easier to do these chainring changes. What is coming out of this thread is that individuals need to be able to choose the chainring of their bikes to suit their particular circumstances, and personal preference (eg) hilly or...

    Chain ring tooth selection

Thanks for that - I wondered if you had some magic tool to do the job :).

    Chain ring tooth selection

@RTeremi how did you hold the sleeve nuts in position when you did this work? A very clean bike .

    Chain ring tooth selection

Hello @ci2i68 , you are doing the change for exactly the same reasons as me - flat (ish) terrain, and a wish to move up the cassette. I cannot be all that much help, as I took my lead from @TS25 when it came to planning what to do - he has done this kind of thing more than once. Now that I see...

    Motor Error

I had the same problem and followed the guidance from @Sierratim - have only used the spray can once.

    Chain ring tooth selection

@Stefan Mikes - here it is on Youtube - pioneered by Sheldon Brown. . When I did it, I did the wrapround plus two, then added the masterlink - if I remember correctly. Edit: I have just checked my spares box and have 16 links left from the 138L chain, so I have 122 plus the masterlink, but...

    Chain ring tooth selection

I am tip-toeing into this discussion, to say that I followed the route as recommended by Shimano when setting the chain length - largest cog to chainring wrap round plus 2 links. That seemed appropriate anyway, as I bought a Shimano chain and the derailleur is Shimano. TS25 posted the...

    Vado firmware update

I could not figure out why MC was not showing me what the up to date version of the display should be, until I realised that I needed to update the App first . A good thing that I am plugged into this forum :).

    Derailleur Cage Size

I have checked, and that is indeed the correct shaped part - which is good news. Many thanks for your help. The 20 mile test ride with minor hills was fine, which is a relief :).

    Derailleur Cage Size

I have a 2019 Vado 4, bought in 2020. I should have mentioned that in my original post, and have made a mental note to do that in future. I did manage to find a part PILO D738 which is available on Amazon, and others, which says it is compatible with the S172600003 catalogue number. I did not...

    Derailleur Cage Size

Faced with trying to track down this part (after several attempts), judicial use of a long adjustable straightened it out. Everything is working well now, phew :). As mentioned elsewhere, the difficulty in finding proprietary parts is a bit of a concern, certainly without a parts list, but...

    Derailleur Cage Size

I fitted the replacement mech today, and am still having a bit of a problem regarding inconsistent shifting. Having watched a few youtube videos, and triple checked the setting up of hi, lo and B screws, I decided to take a pace back and sight the mech from the rear. There is no doubt that the...

    Derailleur Cage Size

When I fitted the chain, I did the largest cog on the cassette to chainring wrap round - plus two. I was left with 16 links of the 138 link chain (Shimano E8000) I sourced, which means I now have 122 - plus the "missing link", and I think that is about right. I am a bit concerned that my...

    Derailleur Cage Size

Sorry about that - my chainring is 44T and I have the 11-42 cassette. Thanks for the information about your set-up with the GS cage - much appreciated :). I will see how my run goes tomorrow before making any decisions - I may be making a mountain out of a molehill.

    Derailleur Cage Size

I should say that I've had half an eye on this derailleur since I bought the bike because it had a few marks on it, but the discount I had was very significant, so I mentally priced a replacement in. If I buy a new one, I don't know if it should it be a GS or SGS cage. What cage do the 48T...
