When was the last time You listened to a record album?

These days I only play records to transfer to WAV and MP3. Played some last week I bought at an estate sale. I have a Luxman direct drive turntable and Audio-Technica cartridge AT440ML with a line contact stylus. I use a re-capped discrete transistor preamp and a Teac Digital recorder. I use...

    People are strange.... Free ebike.

People fear novelty or change. I for example don't like any music more modern than what was around when I was a teenager in the '70s. At least nobody's suggesting e-bikers be burned like they used to do witches.

    Great plan, poor execution

My chain hygiene: Take chain off bike, swish in jar of 50/50 acetone & paint thinner. Remove and link into loop, run through cyclone cleaner with water and orange citrus cleaner. Spray thoroughly with garden hose, dry in old toaster oven at 250F. Fit to bike and lube with dropper bottle (old...

    Rear View Mirror for Bike

Tried a handlebar mirror many years ago. Too much vibration and steering motions. Didn't want to spend $40 on a helmet mirror I might not like, so I got one of the link below for $14. The velcro doesn't hold as firmly as I'd like, so zip ties and/or Gorilla Glue to the rescue...

    E-bikes that don't need a battery

At best, supercaps hold about 1/10th the energy per unit weight compared to lithium-ion. So if you're okay with a 5 mile range supercap setup instead of 50 miles with an equal battery weight, have at it. You'll also need a DC-DC converter between the caps and motor controller for a...

This E-Bike With Built-In ChatGPT Is the Epitome of Overblown AI Hype

I don't even like chatting with real people while I'm riding. Looping around Haines Point is like meditation for me.

Is it safe to freely use the throttle WHILE PEDALING on a mid drive?

I see the e-bike throttle as just a tool, to be used or abused. I have the 9 PAS levels on my BBS02 setup in small steps, from very mild to full beans. Full power always avail from the throttle. If I'm moseying along on a flat trail in PAS 1 or 2 and encounter a slower biker pedestrian I can...

    Battery Arcing?

The arcing itself is not a danger, unless there's flammable vapors in the air. Damage to the contacts after many connections causing high resistance can be a safety issue.

Cost to recharge an ebike battery.

Nice analysis @smorgasbord Thinking back on it, that study compared price of electricity vs cost of raw cells. So yeah, add in cost of battery assembly, BMS (where applicable) and charger; the gap gets bigger.

Cost to recharge an ebike battery.

Years ago a grad student at the university I worked at did a study on lead-acid, nicad, nickle metal hydride, various lithium ion types, factoring in cycle life, cost of electricity, inefficiencies etc. In all cases the cost of charging electricity over the life of the battery was less than the...

Startling pedestrians can be so much fun.

There's a bike trail near my home (Metropolitan Bike Trail in DC) I stopped riding after dark because of this obnoxious, seizure inducing crap.

    BBS02 Headlight circuit current limit

There's lots of automotive stuff that runs on 12V. Gives me more future flexibility. I prefer not to run wiring higher than 12V all over the bike, for safety. The backlight on my C961 display goes off and on with the headlight. https://bafangusadirect.com/products/bafang-c961-lcd-display My...

    BBS02 Headlight circuit current limit

Schematic: S1 enables lights. F1 is a PTC safety fuse. The front and rear DRL lights are ~1W. Headlight is 6W IIRC. I'm using 4 2N7000's in parallel.

    BBS02 Headlight circuit current limit

The light line can be enhanced with a relay or (my preference) a MOSFET. The widely available 2n7000 switches on nicely with 6V on the gate, and you can parallel as many as needed for current handling. On my bike I use a DC-DC converter to drop the bat V to 12V. I can sketch up a schematic if...
