Advice for older man wanting to get back on the trails

I bought a ride1up 500 earlier this year and really like it. However, I miss my younger days of going on the trails and the 500, while fine on forest roads and really smooth trails, feels top heavy and insecure on all but the easiest trails. I'm 76 and in pretty good shape and am wondering if...

Mike, how did/does Aventon keep bikes in supply?

    The e-bike under exercising myth.

I posted in another thread that I could get 100 miles range on a 500 WHr battery, since I use no assist over 75% of the time. Replies centered around "who cares", we bought our e-bikes for fun, not for fitness. Well, for me, I've been cycling for about 55 years, almost always for fitness. I...

Are the brake cutoff switches really needed?

YES ! Especially in tight, low speed turns, and even more especially, U-turns. I always cover the brake, so that I can still pedal in these situations. As they say .... "Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement" Only once did I try to pedal in a U-turn...

"I'm Riding in the Rain, Just Riding in the Rain..."

I like riding in the rain, but only with good rain gear. I got started when I used to ride motorcycles on multi day trips. There was something adventurous and bold about it. On the bicycles, I have a poncho specific to bicycles (similar to the one below) and a 2 piece suit by Frogg Toggs, which...

How to get 100 mile range on a 500 wh battery !

Perhaps, but I think & hope it's a lot higher than 1% rich. I've been biking for 60 plus years, probably 90 % for exercise and 10% for just riding around. My wife and I were in Cortez, Co last year on our daily exercise route on Trek fitness bikes, and at the end, we almost simultaneously said...

How to get 100 mile range on a 500 wh battery !

My wife has a Espin Flow, which is another relatively easy pedal with no assist (55 lbs and good, wide range gearing). It has a 672 wh battery, and she easily goes 100 plus miles on a charge, focusing on exercise with 75% or more at PAS level 0. Again, that's here in Prescott, AZ, which has a...

How to get 100 mile range on a 500 wh battery !

Okay Timpo, you made me smile, however, the post was really about the practical value, to some people, of easy pedaling with no assist on e-bikes, not a theoretical discussion.

How to get 100 mile range on a 500 wh battery !

That's true FlatSix, on the flats yes, and on some e-bikes, but I can't realistically do it with hills mixed in, or with most of the 65 pound plus e-bikes which pedal like tanks with no assist. That's really why I purchased e-bikes when I reached a point about 2 years ago (70 ish) where I began...

How to get 100 mile range on a 500 wh battery !

Yes, the title is somewhat clickbait, but I think it's worth sharing how I get 100 miles on my 500 wh battery. I'm still into biking mostly for exercise. My typical loop is 15 miles, half on a RtoT cinder trail and half back home on the highway shoulders. I am at PAS 0 for approximately 75% of...

    What Are We Paying For?

In my case, my wife and I had an epiphany about 2 years ago in Cortez, Colorado. We were in an RV park for a couple of months, and as always, brought two of our traditional bikes with us. One day, we got back from a hilly ride and we both said, almost simultaneously ... " I hate hills". LOL...

    Anyone order the RadMission?

I would like to add a road style e-bike to my two commuter style e-bikes. I looked at both the RadMission and the Ride1up roadster, both around $1,000. Problem is, living in a hilly area, I really need the gears. If I was in a flat area, I would probably get one.
