2023 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

A friend and I rode my two Huffy Oslo's over to central Whidbey Island (actually, we took a ferry). We rode to Ebey's Landing, Then across the island for lunch in Coupeville. Then back across the island to the ferry, for our return to Port Townsend. It was a most beautiful day...

    Obsession with hydraulic brakes

They should probably pay more attention to the ebike than the car. One trip over the handlebars at 20mph might teach them that lesson.

My DIY builds: GMAC, BBSHD, 9C RH212, CYC Photon, ToSeven DM01

Yeah, I really like my torque sensing DD hub motor bike. It has no more noise than non-motorized bicycle. It will do 28 mph on throttle alone, though I like to pedal and shift through the gears. Pedaling and it's a super quiet bike. The downside is at 62 pounds it's 10 pound heavier than my...

Properly Rated Fuses for an eBike

Maybe on my next build I'll use one of these. ;)

Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

I've broken the top of me from flying off bicycles, and that was before ebikes! I like to believe that I'm smarter now but I almost got smashed in a roundabout yesterday. There's risk in two-wheel travel, but ebikes are a special kind of risk. Fast speed, heavy bikes, and riding in the dog butt...

    Pedego Factory Recall

I build my own ebikes, but those throttles can sure cause big problems. I have a quarter twist grip throttle on a BBS02 and if you twist that thing when you're not on it, it goes flying.

Drivetrain longevity on 2023 Surface 604 V Rook

Sand seems to be an element in your bike's usage. Could that be accelerating drivetrain wear?

    hydraulic front brake quit working

Could be you introduced air into the system. You could try bleeding air out per manuf. instructions. Probably a good idea to replace. They sell the hydraulics as a set for front or back brakes. The price can be $40 to $200 depending on what you think you need. I did read that you're supposed to...

    Another Turbo Vado Ergonomics Thread

I'm just a spring chicken at only 70 years old, but for me a full suspension ebike is the only way to go.

Does the ADA supersede local restrictions on Ebikes?

My son just came back from a repair class on battery electric riding lawn mowers and he says they have an 8 mph speed limit. That's twice the walk speed of an ebike, and seems to me to be a good speed limit for a bike on a walking trail.

2023 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

It was Earth Day yesterday so I went full pedal power on a bike that I recently acquired after my local co-op bike shop was shut down. At a hundred bucks it was a bit expensive for me, but it's my first carbon fiber bike. It's the fastest bike that I have ever pedaled! In my early teens me and...

    Hub, mid, torque sensor

I put a rear hub motor on a bike and it has a torque sensor in the free hub. I do like torque sensing, though because of one weak knee I sometimes get surging and need to put less force on the good leg for a smooth ride. I suppose I hybrid PAS would work better for me.

    Parts

As the bike is made from parts from various other suppliers you might have better luck sourcing parts for those individual components.

Does e-Biking Help You With Other Sports?

I'm too old to worry about cross training, per se. But, if I just ride my bike and don't do walks it's not good.

Upgrade of Huffy Oslo folding ebike

From the harryS post on page 1: Throttle does work with the stock controller. It's the three pin white connector that has a cap on it. Black is ground. Red is +5V. Green/white is signal. And harryS from page 4: The Huffy controller cannot use the on/off switch on that throttle/voltage display...

Can someone explain to me e-bike maintenance

I've started building ebikes out of orphaned bikes. As such, maintenance is a continuous process on everything.
