Heavy rider, very steep hills, not too expensive! Help please

Just re-reading this again but another vote for @PedalUma 's idea to check this first before thinking of buying a new bike..... Maybe a better chainring/cassette for climbing gradients is all you really need, and would save you a fortune. Mid-Drives tend to be a bit more expensive too.

Heavy rider, very steep hills, not too expensive! Help please

Halfords are pretty good for "value for money" bikes, they might not be the latest and greatest in every way but they're normally pretty rock solid, and have a decent warranty should anything go wrong. Plus they have stores all over the country so you maybe able to view before you purchase. The...

    Bike gear for throttle

With mid drives its better to use the gears properly, otherwise you can increase the wear on your components meaning more frequent replacement of parts. Try to stay out of the smallest cogs as much as possible, use the largest cog you can to maintain the speed you want to travel. You can use...

Why are Bosch motors only 250 watts?

Its just funny how predictable it is on this forum.... I don't mean any ill will to @Alaskan, I'm sure he does like his bikes and has a good time riding them, but for my riding I've found many ebikes lacking. I even purchased the most powerful motor said to be available - an Ultra, and still...

Frey enabled "Throttle-from-zero" on my bike at the factory and its a life saver for all the reasons you mention. Get in touch with them and see if they will share the software to enable it on your bike too...

Why are Bosch motors only 250 watts?

Without me knowing, it seems you are the early protester I spoke of... Basically you've just outed yourself as a hypocrite ;) ... I assume you wasn't forced to reply, or did it touch a nerve and you just had too? In any case, your admission came faster than I expected, they've not even changed...

Why are Bosch motors only 250 watts?

Yeah this is true. If the law changed tomorrow everyone on this site would be upgrading before long... Despite their early protestations otherwise. I must say I only really poke fun at the Bosch crowd because they so often see themselves in competition with the Bafang Ultra... Its weird given...

Why are Bosch motors only 250 watts?

The irony of this is we all know big brand motors are peaking way above 250w.... But lets keep playing the "why do you need more power" game. 😁👍

Why are Bosch motors only 250 watts?

Once again Bosch owners trying to justify why their bikes are low power and making all sorts of excuses for it... :D You don't find this with Shimano or Brose owners, its always Bosch...:p Bosch is the Apple of the ebike world.....😁

Known Issues & Problems with Frey Products + Help, Solutions & Fixes

Frey EX Had the joys of breaking a chain yesterday. The chain didn't snap, but was bent/twisted 90 degrees - all out of shape - and no hope it would run after that.... Fortunately I was only a couple of hundred meters from home so walked it back. What caused it.... Slack chain. I had...

Why did the EU choose 250W?

I'm struggling to find reference to it, but I vaguely remember watching a YouTube video that claimed much the EU ebike laws were based on existing Japanese legalisation, which were limited to 250w. I've tried googling but its hard to find a source...so not sure exactly how true that is.

Considering getting an ebike. How do I set my expectations?

In tricky situations you can use precision - or you can use power. :D I rode a 1000w hub for years and it has enough power to pull you through or over pretty much anything. I don't doubt that there will be times you get caught out.... I ride a quite powerful mid-drive now and that happens from...

Considering getting an ebike. How do I set my expectations?

Yes you do. For a mid-drive torque based bike, I use the gears more... Hub drives - just stick it one of the higher gears, and let the motor take you up faster. You get use to the power and will learn when it kicks in, which will make your hill starts and U-turns easier....

    Hydraulic Disc Brakes

It does sound like they need bleeding again. Maybe too much fluid in the system. You can buy a kit online for little money. Just google Bengal Ares 3 bleed kit and you'll find something. If not its a trip to the bike shop.. As this is a new bike, I'd say do what Aventon are advising - take it...

Known Issues & Problems with Frey Products + Help, Solutions & Fixes

Frey EX Pro At about 750 miles on the clock Noticed an increase in noise coming through the frame as I was riding over rough ground. Looking closer, I found the two top bolts holding the rear shock were loose, with one side nearly coming off completely. A few of the other bolts around the...

    2023 SuperLight R&M: Fantasy thread

It was to the OP of the thread really. Wiki says R&M bikes are made in Taiwan by a 3rd party.... Is this true? I have to admit I don't see this extra value....If anything, I'm reminded of the BMW X3... People paid a premium thinking they were buying German, but it was made in Russia... :D
