Hi There,

It’s been a while since you’ve heard from me, Rob Cotter, founder of Organic Transit and designer of the ELF, the world’s first solar-electric vehicle built right here in the U.S.

If you’ve ever seen one of our bright solar trikes gliding by, or maybe you owned one yourself, you know what they stood for: freedom, simplicity, and a cleaner way to move through the world.

Between 2013 and 2018, we built 850 ELFs, each one by hand, right here in the U.S. Together, they logged more than 10 million solar-powered miles. That was real proof that personal mobility could be both sustainable and joyful.

However, along the way, we encountered some significant obstacles: scaling challenges, a takeover, and a lengthy road to rebuild. Through it all, one thing never changed: the belief that the ELF mattered.

And now, I’m thrilled to tell you Organic Transit is back!
We’re designing the next-generation ELF 3.0, and we’re raising funds to bring production back to life. This is your chance to help shape the next chapter.

We’ve launched our campaign on Wefunder, and early investors get first access to limited early-bird terms. The support window won’t stay open long.

If you’ve ever believed in this mission, in moving cleaner, lighter, and smarter, I’d love for you to be part of the comeback.

Thank you for being part of the ride,

Hah. A local guy had an early one. He used to ride it on the local MUP in the early 2010s which caused a lot of local chatter (it took up like 3/4 of the trail and he had changed the gearing so he could cruise at 25-30mph and this was before ebikes were really allowed and codified on trails in the area). I don't know if he actually got officially reprimanded or just got shamed enough that he changed his route but he started riding it on surface streets and I would see him occasionally for years on various roads around Reston and Vienna.

Cool in concept but man are they huge for bike trails.
