Best mid drive motor under 500 Dollars?

I think that's the M620 motor?

I can't find any reference to UART or CANbus for the BBS02B?

Then you need to put the pipe down 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Look at the BBS02B bare motor

Plus I view it in Desktop mode
Or it's your Canadian internet 🙃

I tend to favor amazon since its fairly easy to return stuff, even if its through one of their sellers.

I paid through paypal and a card so if it isnt canx and money refunded I will dispute charges, but hopefully won't come to that.

Amazon is generally faster but costs more.
Aliexpress is cheaper but takes longer, and you never really know what you're getting until it arrives.

The more expensive items tend to be about the same price so I'll use Amazon if it's available.
Aliexpress has A Lot more to choose from but you really have to check the details about the items, and you need to brush up on your Chinesium translations.
(Reading the Chinesium instructions is always a good laugh. 😄)

When something is almost half price, I take a step back.

I bought a set of inverted air forks on Aliexpress for over $300.

When the box arrived it was almost completely covered in Chinese postage stamps. There was barely enough room on the box for my address. The post office didn't even bother canceling all the stamps, and only stamped half the box. 😁

Aliexpress has been cutting prices and offering good sales lately to keep things alive with the tariffs.
As always... You gotta know what you're buying and how to ask the right questions.
That said I got my BBS02B from them without issue, but that was 5+ years ago
GBK price for the bare motor is $380. They've always been a little bit more.. But they are more of a full service business. I've made several purchases from them as well.
ymmv

I heard that China has something like 6 times the manufacturing capacity of North America and the EU combined. Domestically there, potential consumers are not spending, so to keep their economy afloat and employment up they must export even at super low-fat margarines. 😂 And yes, Bosch and Brose have factories there that make bike motors and batteries, so when someone disparages Chinese stuff, slap them with that. This is worthy of a fact check first when talking to the Eastern EU potato eater's guy and that ilk of circular jerks.

I've never seen a BBS02 much lower than $400 from China. I recall I paid around $400 in early 2023 at pswpower, shipped out of their US warehouse, but they have no stock in the USA at the moment. I've not bought anything from CHina since August, when the $800 de minimus waiver on tariffs was scrapped.

I think you get what you pay for, and paying $309 for a BBS02B, when the tariff alone is over $150 doesn't seen like an legit transaction.

The tariff isn't that much and it's listed right on the product page just under the price. The price already includes the tariff... But you will pay your states sales tax on the amount

Roughly 10% tariff.

doesn't seem like an legit transaction.
Yes, exactly. When it fails what is the recourse? I there anyone to call and email that speaks English and is known as accountable? I suspect that second and third tier QC failed stuff is being sold without any support. Hence the reviews are all over the place.
Some guys made LSD in '69 SF. They hung the mico-dots up to dry on folding wooden clothing racks and reviews were all over the place. It dripped down. For some nada, notning, others saw angels and the intense wonders of an interconnected universe.
QC and responsive domestic support are key. What is that worth?

Whenever I've needed support... I've call Ghostbusters and sometimes Blondie

But the best support always came from the Spinners

Aliexpress canx the order this morning. The seller was taking their time but was responding back. A bit of a lesson learned about buying from Ali. I can't say I'm totally put off by the experience, but I think you are pretty much stuck with whatever they end up sending you, if its a good motor, great, if you have problems, then good luck. The more you spend, the less it seems like a good idea.

So I'm back to finding a motor. Considering a TS tsdz2b, the DM02 or a BBS02 if I can find one with the old protocol.

  • The tongsheng is the same motor I have with the same inherent weaknesses. I doubt I would upgrade it to OSF so staying with the oem programming then it would work ok for my purposes.
  • The DM02 seems to be a better built motor with the advantages of the tsdz2b but at a higher cost.
  • The old bafang is the heaviest but most bulletproof out of this group but with the highest cost.
The prices I am seeing as of now:

Johnny Nerdout (JN) for a 500w toseven dm02 with a 52t chainring and the lcd 135 bluetooth screen is 427. Ali wants about 350 for it with all their discounts

A tsdz2b through amazon is 360 with the ekd01 display and I'd still have to upgrade the chainring. JN wants about 429. On Ali its around 260 with all their discounts, shipped from the US.

A bbs02 uart is over 500 depending on the display from JN. Its about 270 on Aliexpress for a uart version with all their discounts, and supposedly shipped from the USA.

Am I missing any other choices?

You do not need to reply to this, but just as a consideration; what is your time worth to you per hour? What level of support, reputation, and accountability do you want? Make sure that all prices include customs, taxes and shipping, and that nothing is hidden, because they will do that, and your motor will be held hostage unless you pay another $65 ransom. Is there a real person who knows what they are talking about to assist you on the phone in English and in a local time zone? Are the components really compatible or is there a meter long wire that translates to a half-meter wire to connect something? Like having a local bookstore or bike shop, does having someone like Johnny around contribute something worthwhile to you?
