I've got a diagnosis of De Quervain's tenosynovitis

The trigger shifter on the Trek SuperCommuter is the cause, as well as my age.
Did my reading and research so the next hurdle is: What to do
Has anyone considered electronic shifting?
Has anyone done it?
What is the absolute best, why to do, why not?
Or am I in a situation that has limited solutions?
