When to service Bafang BBS01 Mid-Drive

Good points but remember M800 is only 200W and 55Nm torque. I run it completely off or on 1 which is just a percentage of its power curve across the 5 power levals. I run Industry Nine Torch and Hope Pro 2 hubs on my mountain bikes and spoiled with better engagement. No experience with DT Swiss ratchet system. As for cassette body, yes depending on the combo it can get chowed up. I assume you run much more powerful motors?

A guy lugged his bike in San Francisco for 3.5 years without lubing the tranny. He killed it. He is getting a new motor painted silver that is better built for high loads and long service life at cost and with free labor. Also here is the bike I built today. I went thru-frame and even thru the handlebar to the display. The soldering iron is almost ready to attach the battery connector and it is done. Moral, keep your tranny lubed!

Here is the finished bike. The hardest part are the screws the size of the bass player of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

That’s a very clean build. Awesome job!

I can’t imagine how tight that those gears would become in that climate without maintaining it. Especially being a single speed. The chain, alone, would’ve been so stuff. Oh, the agony! :)

Having a motor for higher loads will work very well there.

That guy's bike is a seven-speed. 11-34. It is bronze colored. That blue one is just a flatland single speed cruiser with a coaster brake. A different guy brought this one in because he couldn't make it work. Check out the wires.

Oh wow. So many loops. I’d love to see what this looks like when you are done. I love cleaning up wires. I usually clean up and unplug unused wires that customers don’t need. They usually have so many other things to tend to that they don’t even know what is working and what isn’t. It’s a very rewarding and simple thing to do.
 
On that orange monster I told the guy that I would only adjust the brakes and shifting and not be holding the bag on anything else. These two conversions started as identical bikes, one is a competitor's build. Wire management makes all the difference. His build is so heavy that it required an extra-heavy pogo stick fork. The light one does not needed a front suspension fork and outruns, out handles, and outlasts the one with two heavy batteries.

Yes primarily BBSHDs, but I have them powered WAY down on pedal assist. In one case no more than 450w peak. Its the 55Nm that matters and thats a pretty low number. Still, DT Swiss developed their ratchet system for lower-powered EU-spec motors. And their reputation as bulletproof is gained on the lower-tooth counts. I wouldn't trust a 55 on an ebike, personally. Like I said its definitely a rider's choice only. On my 36T I keep a spare set of stock ratchets in my kit in case it ever gives way. That hasn't happened to me personally but I've heard from others who have lost 36T units in the field. I have put the 24T units through thousands of miles of hell on multiple bikes - including cargo bikes carrying some really serious loads - without issue. So I'm reluctant to find a way to screw up that track record.
 
I've ridden Brose motors for over 1000 trail miles, Shimano for over 1700, and Bosch and Yamaha for over 2500 each. None have had any problems, knock wood.

I didn't get to 200 miles on either of the two Bafangs I had before they began acting up... Maybe one motor's abuse is other motors' optimum riding style?
There is nothing you can do on a shimano/bosch or yamaha for 1700mile that would cook a 750watt bafang in 55miles, absolutely nothing. Your motors were damaged or defective for whatever reason.
