What size U Lock do you use?

I just ordered a Radrover 2018 and have decided to go with a Kryptonite U Lock as my primary lock. I was wondering given the size of the bike, what size U Lock’s are best for securing the Radrover to racks?

I did the Xena XSU-310 18mm U-lock along with the Xena XC14 chain with the large loop on one end. Prices vary on the internet and I think I paid $90 for the U-bolt and $75 for chain in 2016. I went with Xena because there was so many YouTube videos on how to defeat Kryptonite locks and there was enough negative reviews to cause me concern about the customer support afterwards. The only negative reviews I found with Xena was the disk brake locks for motorcycles and a few videos of folks unable to defeat the XC14 chain within X amount of time.

I liked the level of security of the U-bolt+chain; but, didn't like having to transport an extra +20 lbs of bulky weight all the time. From my initial research, it seemed anything above 16mm was the magic size to require extra time and/or something powered to break most of the time. I decided to go with a layered approach I can add/reduce depending on my best guess-i-mation of the level of danger. I figured having to cut 2-4 locks would make someone move to an easier target on the rack.

I did:
- Local police and national bike registry
- 14mm chain
- 18mm U-bolt
- 20 foot cable lock
- onguard lock
- Onguard Rottweiler 25mmX4ft lock
- Boomerang cell GPS tracker with smartphone alarm and motion detector

The Boomerang GPS is my main security by alerting me within seconds if my ebike is moved. I usually add two other locks to slow them down to give me time to see why my ebike is alerting me (add more locks if I have to leave on SUV bike rack when traveling out of town). I would recommend some type of cell and/or bluetooth GPS tracking system AND 2nd lock to give you time to check out the issue.

I would also see if you have co-workers that rides also to see if y'all could lock you bikes together to 2X the security. This is what I do when my wife and I ride together. I would also check with storing the bike indoors (out of the weather and can recharge) or removing the front tire to take with you during the day.

Wow, thanks for the information. I looked at the Xena lock and it’s very impressive. Get information for me to make my decision.
