What size are 700x36 tires?

Hello -

I want to ride a bike trail that is known to get a bit muddy. My local bike shop is recommending to use a bike with tires 700x36 or wider.

What size is 700x36, in inches? I want to make sure my tire width is wide enough.

I find all this hybrid tire sizing to be confusing.

those are millimeters, divide by 25.4 to get inches
