Watching the peloton - Professional Road Racing thread 2026

So Jonas made that last climb a bit of a procession by attacking early (on the steepest part) and it worked, dropping everyone pretty much immediately. But Gall came a valient 2nd, 1:15 behind, slow and steady, a tactic that really works for him, no blow ups. Hindley 3rd confirming the podium. In fact I think the entire top ten stays the same. Eulailio's wide grin the entire length of the finishing straight tells it's own story. Story of the race, 9 days in pink, Top 6 finish and best young rider. What a race for him.

Jonas said in the post-race that he had planned to attack much closer to the summit, but Kuss faltered, putting Lemmen on the front until he cracked, and Piganzoli popped, so he had to go a lot earlier than planned. He just plain looks fantastic. His new coach seems to be working out well. The Tour is always must see tv, but the 2026 Tour is absolutely MUST SEE TV.

Hoping for no mishaps today, just straight racing. Torn between rooting for Milan and Ganna in this final stage.

By my count, only 2 or 3 stages went as predicted. Chaos prevailed otherwise.

Will Magnier win again? Adding to his 3 sprints & dooming Milan to none and post race depression.

Anyone know why Visma are in black kit today? Missed any mention by the aussie commentators - who are busy ranking each team by overall performance, quite entertaining.

I've heard no explanation, and I came in close to the start of coverage. Vastly prefer the yellow kit — helps me keep an eye on them.

Finishing up the first, largely ceremonial lap. Let the racing begin!

Never been to Rome. Looks beautiful in the sun. Istanbul and Rome, East and West capitals, not been to either. It must be in honour of Jonas's win and Black aginst the pink looks cool, but not sure if there's another reason. It wouldn't be grieving, no time to do whole kit, just black armbands.

Lorena Wiebes disqualified from the women's Giro after winning the flat stage 1 for her bike weighing 20g below the 6.8kg limit.

Does the UCI not weigh bikes before the stage? Do they really only check after the stage, ensuring maximum controversy? I'm somewhat surprised that the only available penalty is DQ from the race, whether it's a 10k time trial or a 21 stage race. You would think relegation for the stage and a stiff fine + bad publicity would be adequate for a first offense in a 3 week race.

Shame on her team for not ensuring the bike is enough over the limit to make any realistic margin of error irrelevant.

It's because they have red, yellow and pink bands on their sleeves to celebrate Jonas' accomplishment. Only works against black or white.

Edit: Also it lets them sell a special limited edition jersey

Yeah dunno how they check. 20grams though is pretty small. I'm guessing they go to the wire weightwise. Maybe she has a lighter set of wheels then they weighed? Or a smaller size frame or something.

The Netcompany/INEOS grey and orange kit is growing on me. Dunno why the bikes have the model name so big and not Pinarello, in front of world's TV cameras. Cyclists in the know will get it but not helping brand expand.

I agree, I don't mind the grey and orange. Especially when it's Ganna out in front making the peloton chase.

I think the INEOS bikes say Pinarello on the right side and Dogma on the left side.

Ganna is a machine! Lovely moment after the finish when he cycled past Milan and said something in Italian, Id say it as 'nearly got you' to his old friend. There can't be a better finish line then by the Colusseum. Spectacular race.

Re Pinarello - yes! Saw Ganna's bike from a different angle!
